A nice postmark is a joy to behold. (possibly due to its adornment on the Cinderella Stamp Club Journal, we may get preferential service) Never seen "ADV.C" on an Australian postmark before, anyone identifying it please advise.

The ADV. C. is certainly new to me. With the current lack of standardisation in postal cancellers it could stand for anything. The address 45 Victor St Chatswood is a post office.

Because it was on a journal, I imagine it had some relation to a bulk mail classification -- but that is only an uninformed guess. According to their website," Australia Post welcomes your feedback and queries" so perhaps you could pose the question to them.

The "Advance Center". Advance Clerk. Advantage Counter. Adventure Center. Something to chew on! It was on Page 44 my file photobucket. This was on the same page.

I rang Australia Post and asked to be put through to the Chatswood PO to ask them about the ADV C letters. The helpful Australia Post call centre chap said that he couldn't put me through, as the phone number for Chatswood PO is an unlisted number! He did, however, furnish me with a fax number. It is (02) 9242 1845. I haven't sent them a fax yet.

...he couldn't put me through, as the phone number for Chatswood PO is an unlisted number!... According to Google, the number is +61 13 13 18. Apparently Australia Post agrees:

This has everyone stumped at Australia Post They have requested a scan of the Postmark.

In the image I posted the cancel has:
"Postal Services Officer Advance D"
This would lead me to believe "ADV.C." is:
Postal Services Officer Advance C
To me it is a postal workers job grading or the level of security the officer has within the PO system.
It will be good to hear the answer!

Bravo to Australia Post. Such great service. Another call. ADV = Advance (PO code for Bulk Lodgement) Hence the Cinderella Clubs quarterly Journal mailed to all members. C = Internal Code. (Possibly for "clean mail" ie: (all submitted articles) under 125 grams) There you have it Ladies and Gentlemens.

My example came from an auction house and was a parcel post being a box.
Must of been lots of boxes from the auction house.

Hence the "D" classification possibly, John. D= "dirty mail" (guess) perhaps for bulk lodgement of varying weights and sizes.
In other words needs to be individually assessed and thereby attracts a higher bulk mailing cost.
