Seeking info on this one please. Not mine, but curious. Any suggested Value? Thanks Stamp Day 15th-17th December 1945 organized by the 'Committee of Philately', a self-appointed Jewish group from Tel Aviv [mainly], and held at their club. I do not know where that club may have been, but it's possible it's the same place as the IPF building today. Need to make enquiries. I saw this label only once at a market in tel Aviv and made an offer of 20 shekels [$5]...the seller wanted 40 shekels !! I came away empty-handed. Rod, if you ever want to part with it, either for cash or exchange, just let me know. Londonbus1

Phew! took some time, I found this guy on the internet, who sells weird stuff, and I thought I had him in my "favourite sellers" Turns out I had not, must not have saved the Ebay page. I turned to Agent Ransack, (because I panicked, I didn't want to lose this guy/girl I searched every image I had modified in the past two weeks Turned out 957 stamps I found the vendor, but not the page, I think I was outbid. I will have the page I bid on somewhere. If I spot that stamp again, I'll email you.

This one is a recent purchase and again I was involved in a bidding war to get it. A lovely sheet from the United Charity Institutions, an organization based in Brooklyn, New York. They are a religious organization involved in Charity works for Jewish communities in New York , Israel and elsewhere. Strictly speaking, this is not an Israel item but I feel it fits in well both here or in the USA section. I have no idea of date, but from the pictures shown, around the early 1950's. The Yeshiva College [top left], a Religious school, is run by Etz Chaim an organization affiliated with the UCI. Rod showed a block of UCI labels in one of his etiquette posts !! Rouletted sheet of 12. I am all the poorer in my pocket for this, but so much richer in nice things. Londonbus1

Lb1 chortled : "with amazing 'dagger' perfs" I could be wrong, but these look like what the Americans refer to as "Serrate rouletting" Spanish "Orphans of Telegraph workers" Cinderellas have them, I seem to recall. ------------------------------ Not a Cinderella, rather a stamp selvedge sherd, with Israel the culprit. 1989 duck anas querquedula

I wonder what the collective noun is, for a group of Cinderellas? A Range of Cinderellas? A wardrobe of Cinderellas? A Bouquet of Cinderellas? A haul of Cinderellas?..................... Methinks "A Quiz of Cinderellas"

Nice suggestions.
What about a Ballroom of Cinderellas !
[If that had been the case, and all the young ladies rushed out from the Ball just before Midnight, then just think what an odd place it would have been without them.....and how many pumpkins there would have been on the road home !!]

Methinks "A Quiz of Cinderellas" I think any collective noun that hasn't yet been defined should automatically default to "a gaggle". A gaggle of cinderellas! If it's good enough for the goose, it's good enough for the everything else. hahaha Ryan

Swayed, but not convinced, I like LB's, offering A "Ballroom" of Cinderellas. Meanwhile, I'll get back to joining my Gaggle of collectors.

The old Mosbaugh catalog has a section called "Jewish Seals". They are all for organizations either based in or with offices in the US, so they are not strictly Israel cinderellas. It does not include all of the JNF stamps, but they have been catalogued other places. The magenta Rabbi Kook stamps were issued by the Universal Yeshivah of Jerusalem, 38 Park Row, NYC, NY. They are listed in Mosbaugh as #172.7, issued in 1940. The blue United Tiberias stamp is from the United Tiberias Institutions Relief Society, Inc., 194 Henry St., NY, NY. It is listed as Mosbaugh #169.11a, issued in the late 1950s.

In the months after the League of Nations had voted to partition Palestine, there was chaos. The British were preparing to leave and institutions and public services were in turmoil. One of those was the Postal service. Palestine stamps were no longer being printed and the British Run Post Offices were being abandoned. The armies of Egypt, Jordan and Iraq were on the march and it was a Brigade of the latter that led to the first Emergency Postal Service in this so-called Interim period. Rishon-Le-Zion, a town about 10 miles south of Tel Aviv had lost it's Postal service and the only road out of the town to Tel Aviv was being ambushed by the Iraqi Brigade. It was decided to open the road for the post, initially by using an Armoured vehicle although it is believed they were rarely used although an armed guard did accompany the daily journey to 'get the mail through'. 5 designs were submitted, including 2 by Eva Samuel and it was one of her designs that was chosen by the town committee. 10,000 perforated stamps and 2,000 Imperf stamps were printed locally by the Mercaz Press in sheets of 10 (5x2) . Perf 11. The first day of issue was April 4th,1948 and the service was discontinued on May 6th when the remainder of the stamps were destroyed. It is believed there was only one print run as the single plate was destroyed on April 6th. The rather romantic oddity was that all 10 stamps could be identified and given their plate/sheet position. There were 9 varieties !! I show 2 copies below. The Imperf is from position 2 (2nd stamp, top row) and shows the '5' in Rishon Flaw on the bottom panel. The Perforated example is from Position 5 (5th stamp, top row) and shows a break in the 'A' of Israel in the top panel. Other unaccepted designs are shown at the bottom. Londonbus1

One of the group of labels shown by oldpapercollect in a previous post was this one shown below in a block of 4. Information is scant but it is a Magen David Adom Fund-Raising Label from Circa.1950. Inside the Star of David is another Star with other artwork about which I have been trying to find information. Drawn a blank so far but the fun will continue. From my experience, the labels are scarce as the one shown previously was the first one I had seen and then this block appeared on eBay a couple of weeks ago. Some interesting finds during this Coronavirus season !!

An attractive label celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Israel Aviation, possibly for a 1998 Exhibition and event but I have not found evidence of that yet. The main Airport, Ben Gurion (formerly Lod) was 50 years old. Israel Air Force celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 1998. The label was sold at a cost of 5 New Shekels so dates after 1986. Need more checking !

The Levant Fair, a kind of East meets West event , was held throughout the 1930's and into the 1960's. During the Arab Revolt of 1936-9, the event was scaled down to a minimum. The stylized Camel depicted on these labels was meant as a symbol of these East-West connections. UPDATE: Further and more accurate info see the first post on page 3. (March 2024)

A Health stamp (for joining a Health plan) was issued by the Military Government for Judea & Samaria (West Bank) in 1973. The value of 6 Lira was overprinted in August 1976 '15' because of inflation. No new issues were ordered. The stamps are perf 14x14 and are on unwatermarked paper. Hebrew (top) reads 'Health service' and at bottom reads 'Judea & Samaria Region'. The Arabic equivalent at left and right. The later overprinted version is shown.
