Uff, I think I am going to give up trying to collect these modern Australian stamps. There are just way too many minor variations leading to way too many issues each year. Last 10 years, Australia is averaging 237 issues per year. Most stamps have two or three variations in terms of perforations or paper.

Query: A stamp has not carried out any postal service, but is defaced. Is it considered used postally by Australia Post? I have just received a letter in the post, domestic rate 70c Stamps adhered $1.70 Stamps defaced with Pictogram "Philatelic sales Centre 19th April 1982" (ie First Day Cover) It flew through Australia Post unhindered. I have always taken FDC as used, but hypothetically, they are merely "Commercially overprinted" ? Have "Postage Due" auxilliary markings been discontinued with Australia Post? In India, stamps with FDC cancellations are valid for post only on that day. If posted on other days, they are not considered as legit postal due on the letter.

I found this little fella on the margins. Can someone help me with more info about this? Is this a koala staring at a very small figure of a man approaching? Any other examples that someone has come across?

The koala on the selvedge represents reprints of that particular sheet of stamps. Here is the full listing of animal symbols. 1 reprint = 1 koala 2 reprints = 2 koalas 3 reprints = 3 koalas 4 reprints = 4 koalas 5 reprints = 1 kangaroo 6 reprints = 1 kangaroo & 1 koala 7 reprints = 1 kangaroo & 2 koalas 8 reprints = 1 kangaroo & 3 koalas 9 reprints = 1 kangaroo & 4 koalas 10 reprints = 2 kangaroos At the moment I cannot locate my reprints, including the kangaroo reprints, when I locate them I will post the images. What I found is a well-documented website describing the reprints. stamps.chrisdehaer.com.au/reprints/That "little man" is part of the cancellation.

Question for you Rob. You say one koala is the first reprint. Does that mean there was an original printing without any marsupials in the margins?
Thanks!

Question for you Rob. You say one koala is the first reprint. Does that mean there was an original printing without any marsupials in the margins? Thanks! That's correct smauggie, no symbols are used on the originals, the symbols only commence when the original run of stamps are falling short, so a reserve will be used and each reserve is recorded by an animal symbol. [Note: post made by former member @stampmad] Having gone through about 20kg of decimal kiloware from different sources I find it very confusing to see that some of the cheaper cataloged stamps are hard to find. In particular when one issue might come both as a sheet stamp or S/A and the catalogue price is the same yet only about 5% are sheet stamps and an overabundance of S/A Case in point 2014 70c Floral emblems...Have soaked over 1000 of these with NOT ONE SINGLE NORMAL ADHESION STAMP yet the catalogue price them both the same. Is it just my bad luck or are they really that hard to find. I welcome others to post similar examples. RANT OVER (for now) Marius Wytenburg

bet I'm posting this in the wrong place - so apologies Admin if so, and please move as you see fit. This pair were really just as an addition to the recent postings and comments about H.M. Coronation Celebrations, but probably a bit late now, but better late than never I suppose. As everyone will know, this pair are the fifty year celebration issued in 2003 - colours look good.

The Souvenir sheet here not only commemorates the World Stamp Championship and Exhibition in Tel Aviv (2008), but also the opening of the Australia Soldier Park in Be'er Sheva, a centre point of which is the Light Horse Sculpture depicted on the sheet. The stamps can be found on a number of other Australian Souvenir sheets and also in Self-Adhesive format. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Light_Horseen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Soldier_ParkThe sheet reminds of the awkward moment at the Exhibition when I added Israel Stamps and had them cancelled at the Australia Stand........and got a telling off for doing so !! (Apparently, Australia Post do not allow such a practice). I have that sheet somewhere but cannot find it. When it pops up I will add it here. Just for the memory !
