I've been thinking about starting this thread for awhile so might as well give it a try and see if it is worth continuing. I did the same thing on the Ebay board for about a year. Each day (I get around to it) I'll show a page or two from my collection. They will mostly be the first couple pages and sometimes simply a favorite page. I'll start with "A" countries and work back to "Z" To start off, my favorite page of all, U.S. 1869 Pictoral proof set Most of the pages I will show can be viewed anytime on my site @ Antonius-Ra.com But you can call me Mitchell A-Z IndexMap IndexRemember you can right click on any of the pages and select view image. A larger image will appear in a new window and you can enlarge it to see detail by using "ctrl +"

ant-ra - Your "page of the day" thread on ebay was a daily stop for me, when I frequented that forum. Most of the time I don't know anything about what I'm looking at, but I do enjoying looking at them.

Karelia Scott 7 75p orange yellow Genuine- Forgery (I'm enclosing an image here just for fun- and for its educational value.) Nice! As a WW classical 1840-1940 "specialist" ,your collection on the web is one of the highlights for me- and to see it live and breathe daily in a new way- GREAT!!!!

I'm a sucker for the vibrancy of proofs, but I look forward to everything you care to share. Great idea.

Wow, these proofs give you a real idea of what the colours were supposed to look like. Many of the copies I've seen are very much faded, to the point where you think, "now why would they issue such dull looking stamps." Here's an example that isn't all that uncommon, nabbed from an eBay listing. They're also real prone to dreadful alignment, both with the colour separation and with their perforation accuracy. Wonderful to see your copies, so vibrant and looking like works of craftsmanship. Ryan

Thanks much for your responses and encouragement! Stamps of the Arabian Peninsula are pretty much at the bottom of my collecting interests. The majority, commonly referred to as "Dunes" are basically Cinderellas with absolutely no official backing. That said there are still many officially produced stamps for the area but I have a hard time getting very excited about them. My Abu Dhabi is very weak but since it is the first country in the A-Z list, I figured I'd show the first stamp issued there. Alphabetically speaking you could say it is #1 of the world. Today the first two pages are from Aden which was a British Colony up until 1964. Prior to it's own stamps being issued Aden was considered part of British India and used stamps of India. Today Aden is part of Yemen. Visit Antonius-Ra.com

Could someone tell me how to properly make the link for my Aden collection. HTML does not seem to work.

the way I have done it is to paste the url, then select it, and then click on the link button, or is that not what you are asking?

Geezer, Thanks, that worked but I'm not clear on why. I was selecting my HTML and it left a lot of unneeded stuff I had to delete. I cannot understand how the link would get a name by just cutting and pasting the URL. I'll figure it out with some more practice. Hopefully Jack will be able to clear it up.

Love those Dhow's. There is something about Aden that makes me want to particularly fill the spaces- I think because it is the first country in the Big Blue 1840-1940 album.

For today a couple first pages from Alaouites. Part of Syria under French mandate, superseded by stamps of Latakia. Top page is the first page of regular issues and the bottom page is that of the postage dues. I'm rather fond of the colored papers used on the second set of dues.

I have a few of those postage dues on colored paper, but the Big Blue 1840-1940 album completely ignores the 1925 Scott 1-21, which you so nicely show, perhaps because of the moderately expensive CV. Stunning. I would imagine that a specialist in French (mandated) territories would be quite pleased to show that collection.

Todays' page would have been more suitable 8 days ago on Columbus Day. stoltzpup was was asking about separating 1992 Columbian sheets and then selling them in singles. It made me think of two sets of sheets I separated that would be a "semi nifty" page of the day. October 12, 1992 was a Sunday which is a bad day for getting stuff canceled. All post offices were closed. On a bet I went to the main Post Office in Kansas City Missouri. The main door was open but it was all locked up inside, I happened to notice a guy working behind a closed door in the box section. He seemed to be only one person with a cancellor anywhere. I kindly asked if he'd CTO the two broken up sets I had. To my surprise he handed me over the cancellor and let me take my time with them. As you can see the CDS is Red which makes them even more curious. I have no idea if I increased their value but I would have to think so. They've got to be near impossible to find with any kind of postmark of the "correct date". Anyone else every seen a set canceled on Oct 12 92 ? As you can see they are still stuck to the cardboard I used to cancel them on. I should probably get them off and mount one set and sell the other to see if their value increased much

In philatelic terms I think they would be thought of as nothing more than curiosities?

Which one is missing? Neat set though. I have never seen a whole st with the correct date actually but have seen a few singles on cover though.

The page for today is one that I just completed today. I won a lot on Scott pages from 1934 thru 1945 to get the two stamps (1.75+.75L and 2.75+1.25L), I needed that complete the Summer Expo for Child Welfare set. Since my Italy regular issues are 99.5% complete thru 1980, it's pretty exciting to add them. I need to make a new replacement page as Steiner forgot to add a space for the 5+3 lire stamp. Still need to replace a couple used ones but it's complete.

For today the page that is my first for Albania. Early Albania is very scarce, expensive and fraught with forged overprints. I have very little interest in pursuing them. The first issues came in 1913 and were overprints on stamps of Turkey. Later in 1913 the first stamps produced for Albania were issued and that is where mine collection starts. The next page is the first page of Semi Postals and Airmail

Re: Albania Very impressive showing for a WW classical collector. I agree that early Albania is a minefield of forgeries and forged overprints. Some 50 types of forgeries are said to exist, for instance, for the 1917-18 "Double Eagle" issues (Scott 54-61, 62-68). The copies I have (Scott 62-68) are all forgeries.

For today a few pages from Algeria. Included are the first two pages of regular issues and a semi postal set which probably makes up the most attractive page of the country.

Allenstein has a special place in my philatelic heart because it is one of the few countries that the Scott "Blue" International has spaces for the entire country. Of course, the "Blue" manages to squeeze everything on to one page.

Today some pages from the Portuguese Territory of AngolaThe top page shows the first stamps issued for Angola and the bottom page; one of the worlds great Mammal sets. I'm sure anyone here that collected the world as a kid can remember having a few of them.

For today the first and only page of Anjouan. An island in the Comoro island chain between Madagascar are Mozambique Wow, that's a nice looking page. Any time I've tried to find stamps from Anjouan I've come across ugly beat-up things, or stuff that's well outside my budget. Ryan

Today the first page of Argentina regulars and air mails. Although the rest of my Argentina is pretty complete the first page of regs is real tough. The first couple sets were some of the most counterfietted in the world and the Rivadavias are scarce and expensive, The air page is one of my favorite sets.
