I'd like to put my new Denmark collection project online and be able to update pages as needed. Are there still viable FREE website hosts? I use to use Tripod about 10 years ago, for various things, so I know they use to exist, but are there still any around? Can anyone recommend something? At some point I may go with a paid web hosting, but for now I just don't need it.

What I collect: If I have a catalogue for it, I collect it. And I have many catalogues ....

Try Wordpress.com or Blogger.com. These two are the most reliable alternatives. Both are very easy to start and use, and both provide a healthy range of features for free (and if you want more, you can always pay for extra features and storage).

If you want a blog/website, blogger.com is free, except for some nominal fees for image storage at their companion picasa web album site.
See my blog as an example. ;-)

Ryan - That's a pretty cool comparison chart. Some of those options I didn't even think about, but it's nice to see who offers what, like advertising-free pages, thanks for the link.
scb - I will check those out when I get home from work tonight, thank you.
jk - Although I love your blog, and I regularly visit a few others, I'm not sure I am technologically advanced enough to create one. I'm still a bit old school and am not sure how a blog works compared to a straight html-based website. But I'm always open to try new things, I guess.
Jack, that would be awesome, I'll keep that in mind when I get something going.

Spain1850-
Blogger.com has a number of templates to choose from- mix and match. It is actually easier in my opinion than a straight HTML website. ;-)
