Here are the specialized catalogues for Czechoslovakia that I've been able to find for my library. I don't yet have any of the more recent POFIS specialized catalogues, they're on my list of things to look out for. This last book deal with forgeries of Czech stamps. The entire text of the book has been translated into English and was printed in The Czechoslovak Specialist in sections from March 1965 to December 1966. There are no images included in the translation but you might still be able to glean some useful info from it. Ryan

Ryan, why don't I live next door to you? I see on Wikipedia that Perth's all-time record low temperature is -0.7° C. That's probably one reason why you don't live next door to me .... ha ha Ryan

One more source for info is the Czechoslovak Philatelic Society of Great Britain. They post all copies of their journal, Czechout, online for free and available to non-members. www.czechout.org/And to derail things, my favorite Czechoslovak animation series, Pat & Mat. It's time to fix the wallpaper. And as with every episode, one disaster follows the other ... Ryan

My favourite Czechoslovakia stamps are the Hradcany issues by Mucha. I think I will start a separate thread on these.

Czechoslovakia 1920 Airpost Unwatermarked. CV $75 Could any members knowledgeable, or with Literature, kindly cast an eye over these please? "Excellent counterfeits of the Overprint are known" I would like to establish authenticity. The 24Kc and the 28Kc are both signed / expertised with stamp "Richter" The 14Kc has a sqiggle, not sure if pencil or stamp.

Expertiser mark : Richter (In Script) as found
Georg Richter This very common expertising mark (genuine or forged) is usually considered to be of little value as it is frequently found on forged stamps. Dealer 1943 1949 (Kyllmannstr. 22a, Berlin-Lichterfelde West). This 1906 cover is addressed to Georg Richter. Heinzgeorg Richter Address (1998): Ilbenstädter Str. 31, D-61206 Wöllstadt. Not active?

Czechoslovakia. Ryan. Would you mind looking in your specialty books, at 1964, Sc1264 the Voshkod Miniature sheet, see if there are explanations on any varieties please? (3 Korunas) Komarov, Jegorov and Feoktistov There is an article in The Czechoslovak Specialist that describes 8 different varieties of this sheet, the first two pages in the February 1966 issue. The types are described in both the 1978 specialized and the 1996 Trojan with the same drawings and text. There is no price difference between any of the types, so presumably they all occur with the same frequency, likely a press sheet of one of each type, I would guess. There is an earlier article in The Czechoslovak Specialist that gives some basic design info on the sheet, page 61 in the April 1965 issue. Ryan

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. On behalf of The Stamp Forum Airlines, the Admin and the Moderators, I welcome you aboard flight 201 to Czechoslovakia. The distance of 1200 miles will be covered in approximately two hours. My Dad did a lot of his flight training in a Czech-built Zlin similar to the Z37 shown on your stamp - I think his plane was the two-seater version used for training. 1200 miles would take 11 hours with that ugly boxy thing! But it was easy to fly and difficult to get into trouble. Stall speed was barely over 50 mph - you could actually keep the thing airborne and take longer to get somewhere with it than if you drove your car. Note the takeoff distance on that plane, 170 feet - the main runway at Calgary International Airport is 200 feet wide, you could take off edgewise on the runway at big airports! Ryan

Nice yarn Ryan, curious that you did not follow in his footsteps regarding flying. I was going to make a comment on the 1k60 issue, that this was Czechoslovakia's "Inverted Zliny" but thought I would get too many groans.
I watched the Zliny Z534? on youtube doing some amazing tricks, 30 feet off the ground upside down.

Interesting, all of your post-breakup Czech Republic stamps are CTO - I have a fair sized pile of stamps from the Czech Republic but all of them are postally used, I've never seen a CTO stamp before.

Well that's more than curious Ryan, where I buy, they seem nothing but CTO (A vendor direct in the Czech republic) This was my first dip into the CTO pool because they were cheap.
I wasn't really happy, and will hold out for mint or postally used in future, although postally used is difficult to ascertain.
The vendor of these used a souvenir sheet on my parcel, and the way it is cancelled, if I soak it off the cover, you would swear it was CTO.

Ryan Yes, very nice Ryan, I much prefer these to these ugly dark ink "in your face" CTO's and basically look like "imposters" I can handle the 1960's 1970's CTO,s they were light and unobtrusive, These dark monstrosities, pull your eye away from the stamp design to focus on the splodge.

My buzzer rang but I cannot help on this occasion. I have never seen it before, so could be a USA item. I will fish around a bit. They certainly issued some nice sheets. Because of the English inscription, it should be a Cinderella but the reproduction could be mistaken for the real thing. Like the one below. This sheet, printed in London, was issued to commemorate Czechoslovakia's 25th anniversary, their declaration of independence was penned 1918. A bit ironic, as Czechoslovakia was occupied as this sheet was being produced. Beginning about 1938, the Germans over-printed Czek stamps with a swastika and the phrase Wir Sind Frei, the Czecks' did not resume issuing stamps until 1945
