In the early days of my time collecting Flags on Stamps these two sheets would have made their way into my collection. It was a while later I discovered there were too many Souvenir and Miniature sheets depicting Flags in the decorative areas of the sheet and not on the stamps themselves. So I stopped collecting them ! Having said that, these two sheets are very attractive showing vessels in Bratislava and Budapest. The stamps commemorate the Danube Commission. Printed in Recess, Perf 11½x12. Issued on September 29th 1982.

1969 4th Art Series nicely displayed on cards/pages with info and relevant cancellations. The 'pieces' look like they have been cut from larger items, possibly souvenir pages (?). Stamps are perf 11½.

Here's one from Czechoslovakia that until a few minutes ago I had no idea was an Exhibition item. I quote from the SG Catalogue Part 5, Czechoslovakia & Poland. "A set comprising 1.50,2,3 and 5k values showing historical views of Prague was printed arranged in blocks of 4. They were sold at 20k including entrance to the Exhibition but only to subscribers to the Inland New Issue Service and to members of Czechoslovak Philatelic Societies. One per applicant. "

Some cartoons on 1968/69 stamps.
By the way, Picasso's Guernica painting is not "a generic reference to the disasters of war"; but an actual remind of the "too real" bombing on April 26, 1937 of the small (3500 in 1937) Basque market town of Gernika by German Luftwaffe's Kondor Legion helping Franco on the 1936/39 war. Gernika was, and still is, the cultural and symbolic capital of the Basque nation. About 250 people were killed.

How someone added stamps to a basic album when they not have enough spaces. These will have to be soaked off (from a collection I received). Some are glued down and also need to flatten them as the pages are wrinkled - likely due to all the moisture used to attach the stamps.

Landlocked Czechoslovakia actually had a cargo ship line. It was Czechoslovak Ocean Shipping. Formed in 1959, they leased property in the ports of Stettin (Szczecin), Poland and Hamburg, Germany for their ships to call. Over the line's history, the company owned 44 ships, and all were built in other countries. In 1994, the company became Czech Ocean Shipping and in 1998, the ship line was dissolved. In 1972, the country released six stamps of their sea-going vessels. Featured in somewhat dramatic fashion are the Jiskra, Mir, Republika, Kosice, Dukla and Kladno. The line's flag had a blue banner with a red star in a white circle. Scott: 1831-1836 A657 Photo engraved designs on blue paper.
