Was reading through some of the many and varied posts on the Board and came across one where one of our illustrious members was having a little bit of a "brag" about an item in their collection That got me to thinking about my collection and what items do I have to "brag" about - not very many unfortunately but there are a couple and this is one of them This is the only one of these that I have ever seen so far - Is it one of a kind? Anyways show us your "brag" items

I don't really think I have anything that lends me "bragging rights"? I'll look though. Edit: If I had to pick and choose it would be this cover with the "dot-in-star" fancy cancel from Jersey Shore, Pa. I paid around $30.00 for it and is valued in the neighborhood of $800. dollars. The only caveat is that It's very specialized material, so I really really doubt that it would command the full retail value outside of that area. To tell you the truth, I really don't care if what it's monetary value is because to me- it's absolutely priceless!

No, but it did get close enough to "C" the grill under the blue cancel -- a 3c rose Washington (Scott 83) on cover that I won on ebay that was grouped with four 2c black Jacksons (3 Scott 73 and a Scott 87 (E grill)) for under $40. Here was the listing image:

Wow that's amazing! You know I still don't have a blackjack on cover? I'll have to work on that I suppose?

Wow that's amazing! You know I still don't have a blackjack on cover? Apparently Steve is hogging all of them. FYI, I Googled the addressee on Steve's amazing collection there. (Of course I did.) Information on James Boyd Munroe:

Well, I don't yet have it in-hand but I just bought this #30A. I think it's real Puuuurty! (For what I paid for it, it should be!)

Some lovely items in this thread. Well done everyone. [where did you say you lived ?] I do not have much that is so old and 'braggable' but I know a few folk who would like to take this off my hands ! Limited Edition of 50 and my Prize Exhibition item bar none.I was lucky. The last two scans are a bit blurry......I guess the scanner had an off day !! Londonbus1

Londonbus1 Best designed stamp ever in my book, and I no doubt many would agree with me, I'd be one of those many people you can put on your list that would snap that out of your hand, hoping to get hold of a mint and or used copy sometime in 2014, I'm going to have to do some overtime to pay for them though.

You most likely will not find one like this. The original is much more common and can be had quite easily...for a price !! The wonders of Philately. There are thousands and thousands of £1 UPU's but they always come at a price. The item above is much more rare but because it's a reproduction [albeit an expensive one] it will never get to the dizzy heights of the 1929 version ! This was the most I have ever spent on a philatelic item but would not have done so had I not collected British Philatelic Exhibition Cinderellas. It was an oppportunity not to be missed and I was lucky to have been 'chosen' to receive one. A few months after I received the item I took it to the UK to discuss it with others and was offered 8 times what I paid for it !! Most recently, another of that 'discussion' group offered a bit more....but it's going nowhere, at least not until I give up on the collection !! Londonbus1

Investing has its place, I'm sure, but that's something different from collecting. I'm firmly a collector rather than an investor and I like your style here! Ryan
