If someone could explain the back of the sheet please? The date refers to the beginning of the sheet's period of validity for postal usage. I don't really know why they needed to print that, unless the sheet was available for purchase before its official release date of March 11 (which is also the start of validity). Most Swiss stamps up to the end of 1963 also had a date after which the stamp was no longer valid, but that nuisance was removed. The "T1", "T2", etc refers to the plate position of the stamps reproduced on the design. These Rayon I stamps came in 40 different types - every stamp on the lithographic stone has slight variances. www.swiss-philately.co.uk/stamps_federal.htmlNote that the 2 hour time allotment allowed for delivery in the Rayon I zone amounted to slightly less than 10 Km back in the day. Regarding the discussion above, here is a Type 39 of 40. (The writing coming in from the left is a signature on the cert, not a part of a cancel.) Sismondo blesses the cancel, so it is something to compare from, for whatever that is worth.

Thanks cjd. All helps.
Regards Ryan's Note that the 2 hour time allotment allowed for delivery in the Rayon I zone amounted to slightly less than 10 Km back in the day.
The first railway on Swiss soil was the extension of the French line from Strasbourg (Alsace) to the French border town of Huningue/ Huningen. Inaugurated in 1841, it was brought into Basel on 15th June 1844. The first line inside Switzerland was the "Spanisch-Brötli Bahn" from Zürich to Baden (1847, centennial celebrated in 1947. with stamps) from which it was said that hot cross buns put on at one end would still be warm when taken off at the other end, a major cause of wonderment at the time. Re: A trivia note - those Swiss chocolate stamps were the last stamps printed by Courvoisier.
Wow. That is so surprising, they were as much part of philately, as my old 1999 thumbed Gibbons Catalogue. Their name adorned thousands and thousands of stamps. Not sure how to rate them, a lot of their stamps were a tad ho hum, yet others, like the chocolate stamp, will be regarded in the future as a classic I would think.

Could a member offer a Scott Cat # for this stamp designed by Hans Erni please? Not listed in my Scott 2009 Switzerland Air Semi Postal (should be CB2 or near) 50th Anniversary of Swissair. If it is a set, can I have a page scan or part thereof please?

If you can trust this seller's identification, it is Scott B479 -- it comes in a sheet of 8 stamps. Edit: I just checked my catalog and it is, in fact, B479.

My mistake, assuming it was Air Post, when it is just a Postage semi postal. Found it in my Catalogue. I did a text string search unsuccessfully, I probably used "swiss air" instead of swissair" Scott does not tolerate part text string searches sadly.

Sadly I cannot upload a picture of the one I have (that's right, still haven't subscribed to photobucket!) but Switzerland SC#237 is a very cool looking stamp of a mobile post office bus, only sold by the traveling post office.

I have one of them James, sadly the rest of the page has huge gaps (No League of Nations issues etc) I have "Type B" Granite paper with blue and red fibres Yes, a neat stamp. If I recall, Denmark has some nice Bus Post Office issues. (Finland Parcel Post Google "autopaketti" )
