Does anyone know where I can find an electronic copy of "The Australian Stamp Journal". I am looking for the May 1915 issue.
Much appreciated,
Mark

Thanks for the link, but I can only see a catalog entry not an electronic version (e.g. pdf). Is there a pdf?

Why do I so often get stumped on KGV 1d Stamps ? The 'scratch' at the bottom of the neck was merely a crease in the mount !! It's a Die I for me ? Londonbus1

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

From Kangaroos to Kookaburras !! This cute little bird was issued in Blue for the 1928 National Stamp Exhibition in Melbourne. They were printed in sheets of 60, 15 blocks of 4 with margins all round and sold like that at the Exhibition. I have this solitary single all-alone little feller. But what a cutie !! SG#106, Printed in Recess by John Ash. I was looking through the Australia threads this evening and saw this old post. At some time I acquired the mint block of four. (Sc95a) Sadly it has a hinge remnant on the upper salvage edge but that was pretty standard for that era.

Spending some time looking at my Australian collection this evening and stumbled across this block of Sc 365a/365b. Pairs and blocks are not that unusual I guess but this corner block of 9 is a bit nicer than what usually shows up so I am glad to have it. Scott includes this comment in my old catalogue.

A lovely block hdm1950 Spending some time looking at my Australian collection this evening and stumbled across this block of Sc 365a/365b. Pairs and blocks are not that unusual I guess but this corner block of 9 is a bit nicer than what usually shows up so I am glad to have it. Scott includes this comment in my old catalogue. I have a letter, which gives a contemporary collector's viewpoint on these stamps, written May 1965, from a Joan Loxton in Ouyen, a small rural town in the state of Victoria, Australia, to fellow philatelist Edward Melvin Lueddecke (1921-2002), a WWII US Navy veteran, of St. Louis, Missouri, USA. In the letter, Joan thanks Edward for a pair of imperf between 5d stamps, which "dealers here are asking about double face value for". To get them at the philatelic bureau, where they had been on sale for some time, she notes that one had to buy "a considerable part of a sheet". The cover, and excerpt from the letter are shown below. Joan stamped her letter with 1965 (April 14) 2/3 50th Anniversary of Anzac, which overpaid the 2/- airmail rate to the USA. The 2/3 value was intended for airmail to Europe and Africa.

Is that actually a block of four or an uncancelled miniature sheet from the 1928 National Philatelic Exhibition in Melbourne? Looks like the latter to me.

Catweazle You are correct on the Melbourne Exhibition Issue. The Scott 95a assigned to the pane block was issued for the Melbourne International Philatelic Exhibition. This is stated in the Scott catalogue and at the time I shared it I had not added that detail to my post.

The 3d Kookaburra was the first Australian stamp to be issued for the benefit off Collectors. It is distinctive because it was produced in a mini sheet of 4 stamps. This being only the fourth occasion such an item had been issued in the world Richard Breckon Of 4 colour swatches put forward, "Oriental Blue" was chosen. Exists : Punctured "OS" and strip of 3 , left hand has dry ink. ACSC 2018 Cat #133ba PS: I would love to know, who was on the Exhibition's organising committee, possibly an American? (Hand script reads "approved color") My ripped copy.
Australia’s First Miniature Sheet The first miniature sheet issued by the Australian Post Office was that issued on 29th October, 1928, to commemorate the International Philatelic Exhibition held in Melbourne. The miniature sheet, which was designed by Mr R. A. Harrison and engraved by Mr T. S. Harrison was recess-printed on unwatermarked paper. Following representations made by the organisers of the International Philatelic Exhibition planned to take place in Melboume over the period 29th October to 1st November, 1928, the Post Office considered a number of proposals by which a postage stamp might be associated with the exhibition. It was decided eventually to utilize a modified version of the 6d stamp of 1913 depicting a kookaburra and to issue the stamp in 3d denomination and in blue colour. Additionally, it was agreed that the stamp would be printed not only in the usual sheet form but also in special sheets of 60 stamps so arranged that within each such sheet there would be 15 blocks each of four stamps surrounded by selvedge to give the effect of a miniature sheet. Arrangements were also made for the special sheets to be printed on a press which was installed at the exhibition as a working exhibit. Sc# 687 1978 anniv.

Any idea why some were punctured O.S. if they were primarily offered for collectors? Catweazle The 3d Kookaburra was printed in the usual sheet form, Others printed for collectors (and at the exhibition) were printed in 15 x Blocks of 4 I cannot recall ever seeing a block of 4 punctured thus. Australian sheet stamps, were punctured OS, on sheets deemed to be inferior in some way, to be issued to the public The 3d Kookaburra (sheet form) was punctured 1927-1930 using the small OS pattern They were not offered for sale to the public. Be alert! OS punctures are regularly forged Hint: Always look for forgeries hiding in groups of OS sold on ebay
