Top: Germany Michel #4, Scott #4 with 12-30-72 Treuen cancellation and Laungade receiving cancel on back. middle: Thurn & Taxis, Southern District, Michel #44, Scott #46 with 220 circle cancel & Frankfurt 7-1-1857 Cancell on front, with a blue "JULY" cancel on the back. bottom: North German Confederation Michel #5, Scott #5 with Herbede Jun 3rd cancel, but no year. here are the stampless covers I received this week also:
The top one is an Official cover cancelled in Denkendorf in 1876, with a receiving stamp on the back from Dirkendorf(I beilieve). The middle one is much older from 1836, with a Dinkelsburl cancellation. The bottom one is from 1842, cancelled in Rosenheim. I have no idea why they wrote 1785 on the lower from of the cover. ( I can't read German)

As part of my soaking efforts earlier in the month, I was "rewarded" with this corner block from Germany's Cultural Foundation of the Federal States series released in 2003.
The stamp portrays "Proun 30t", a painting by El Lissitzki (1890 - 1941) who was a prominent 20th-century graphic designer and an important figure of both the Bauhaus and De Stijl movements.
Proun 30t, painting by El Lissitzki (Michel No. DE 2308, Yvert et Tellier No. DE 2136) Perf 14 x 14, printed in offset lithography with a face value of 144 cents (Euro)
A welcome addition to my collection of art and artists on postage stamps...

Absolutely fabulous collection, mikeclevenger. Wow! Congratulations! That’s like a car aficionado getting a 55 T-bird! Purchasing something like that can change your philatelic destiny and send you down a new path. I was fortunate enough to purchase a similar collection from Ireland. I actually decided to keep the overprints intact and I now use it as a reference collection. That started my fascination with early Irish varieties.

mikeclevenger Love those postmarks - if you have a few "dups"......send some to Canada I am not fussy Well, as far as I am concerned they are all dupes. I don't collect cancellations. LOL. Hi, Mike! I gather from your recent posts that your position on collecting cancellations has changed? You seem to have come a long way since February! I would also like to echo Terri's ( philatelia ) comments. From the pages you have posted, it looks like you got a really great collection there--very nice find, indeed. Congratulations! In the meantime, I am going through a large mixed lot from Germany that I got from Gavin ( feebletodix ) a couple of weeks ago. There is a lot of modern material with postmarks. Are you interested in those, or just postmarks from the classic era (pre-1940)? If you are interested in the modern material to check for postmarks, please post a response in this thread or PM me and let me know your time period of interest, and I will sort accordingly. Thanks, Chris

Thanks, Chris Hey Chris, yes I have changed my mind. I am now collecting the postmarks, and not doing too bad so far. I just started sorting the postmarks, and I have about 4-500 different in the stockbook already. I have thousands of stamps to still go through, so it will take a while. I am trying to do the older stuff first since a few people need some stamps I have, and I want to help out. It is easy to fill a single or few stamps for someone, but a list takes a little longer. I will start filling want lists in another week or so, as I have been spending my time on my Marine displays for next weeks Marine Corps Birthday Celecbration. I only want before 1945, I have too many later ones, and I may even sell off all my Germany albums after 1945, not sure yet. I just have too many albums right now.
Thanks, Mike

I just aquired a collection which has stamps hinged on top of stamps (in most cases dupes... on other's I guess they didn't know where to put it...)
Are there any stamps up to pre WWII I should be wary of soaking? most are used, but a few are unused (I will cut excess hinge off rather than soak) and a few mint that it appears they licked the stamp and stuck it to th epage....

Another set of German stamps he likes, with a leaning towards the lighthouse series:

I haven't had any problem in soaking Pre - 1945 stamps. They seem to soak just fine.
I do use Stamp Lift Fluid sometimes on mint stamps with hinges, to remove the hinge from the stamp, depending on the hinge, and where it is placed. I usually just use it when there are multiple hinges and they are distorting the stamp in some way, as in making it bulge out or look contorted. I have used it to remove hinges that are on the top edge, as in, I can't cut it so that it doesn't show at the top. I can't stand a mint stamp with a hinge sticking out on my page.
Have a great day.
Mike.

Ok, so Christmas break is coming up for me and I have 17 days off. I am going to try to fill all Pre-1945 Germany want lists the best I can. I have about 30 stockbooks, 2 boxes full of extras, 3 boxes of glassines full, and 2-3 extra albums full. If I already have your list, I will let you know what I have. If you have never sent me a want list, and are looking for any Pre-1945 Germany stamps, send me your list, with mint, used, or either marked, and I am sure we can work something out. I only want to do this one time, as I am selling the remains on Ebay when I am done.

On the two recent and similar cancelations
I notice the lower location in parenthesis NEUSALZ (ODER) and VILLINGEN (BADEN).... Baden is a state....but Oder is a River???
also, after the date- is this a time of day (7-8M and 5-6M) M= morning??
Just curious
and since I'm typing away, are the early German stamps "color safe" to soak?

Neusalz is with the river Oder yes.
The time I'm not sure of.
I had no problem with soaking German stamps. I did soak a similar stamp that I posted for more than 24 hours, forgot it. It was just fine. But Michel DR 435, Scott DE 372, Yvert et Tellier DR 404A, Stanley Gibbons DR 430 I would be carefull with. I have seen it loosing and transmitting pink colour to other stamps.

Wile sorting this stamp caught my eye, I have seen stamps that have gotten stuck to the back of another stamp, but usually ink removal is not "complete" wherever there seems to be some missing. Any ideas? Gum on reverse is undisturbed This seems an awful lot of "dust" in the process
