I finally got around to scanning my latest gap-filler that was acquired in late March -- the W.G. Crosby cachet is listed in Mellone's as 929-35. The cover was purchased as part of a two cover lot, the other being an Aristocrats-Lowry (929-1) with plate number block of 4. The latter cover included a Church Committee For China Relief pamphlet titled "Have a Heart for China." Great finds Steve. I don't have either of these in the Hand Cancels. I am always looking, but I am down to needing the hard to find ones like you are. I don't have quite as many as you do though.

Hi Steve Interesting. There was a store customer who was collecting the identical topic. I am not sure how big his collection was and I have forgotten his name. If I ever remember it, I will send his name and maybe you could touch base with him. On the last cover, the quote "Sighted Sub; Sank Same" seemed a very familiar statement. Looked it up and found: this Wiki article: Article
Erroneously the quote has been stated as: "Sighted Ship; Sank Same" Jerry B

I got in two more Iwo Jima First Day covers today. One is the Crosby "OLD GLORY" cover with 2 stamps and Hand Cancelled with an added AIR MAIL stamp on it. The other is a 2 stamp First Day Cover with a Victory cachet. This is not one of the listed Cachets, but it goes nicely in my Patriotic Collection of covers.

Hi tomiseksj : That is a fantastic collection of Iwo Jima first-days you have. At the APS show in Omaha there was an exhibit by William Kelly entitled The 3 cent Iwo Jima Stanp and It's First Day Covers and Uses. Your collection seems to equal his and I am wondering if you have considered showing yours? Have you seen Kelly's exhibit? Don

tomiseksj That's an impressive variety of covers for a singular stamp issue. Kudos!

I haven't seen the Kelly exhibit.
I also haven't considered exhibiting these but imagine that I'd need to have a few of the very expensive covers (e.g., Knapp, Weigand) in order for it to be competitive.

It has been over a year since I added to this thread -- an indication of how difficult it has become to fill the gaps in my collection. This cover, with a House of Farnam cachet, was also imprinted with "The Phoenix - Connecticut Group / Fire Insurance Companies / Hartford, Connecticut" for use by that entity for advertising purposes. The cover was mailed with the insert shown below. I already had this piece with the machine cancel; however, it is so infrequently seen on ebay that I couldn't resist. If you have one of these postmarked with the large dial handstamp, I'd be willing to trade.

Another cachet that was not listed by Mellone has been added to my collection. The cachet maker was Alberta J. Goff (1921-2008).

Until I acquired this Reuss 1st cachet (ME-24), it had been almost 5 years of almost daily searching since I was able to remove a cover from my want list -- now, only 19 more to find. The posts showing a composite image of the collection and an image of the cachets in my want list have been updated, accordingly.

It has been over 7 months since I added to this thread, as well as to my Iwo Jima FDC collection. This unaddressed cover is not listed in the Mellone catalog. The cachet maker was Louis G. Nix.

This week I was able to fill another hole in my collection -- not one of the missing cachets, but the large CDS on an addressed cover with cachet from an unknown designer. In the Mellone catalog, the cachet is identified as ME-58. After completing this post, I'll be updating the composite image that appears earlier in this thread.

It has been almost 1 year since I last added one of the missing cachets to my collection on July 24, 2021 -- the Reuss first cachet (ME-24). I found this Chambers cachet (ME-48) listed on ebay on July 3 and didn't hesitate to pay the $35 asking price.

From the same seller, I also obtained this Detroit-Ludwig cachet (ME-47). Note that it bears a striking similarity to the cachet Mellone categorized as ME-60 from an unknown designer -- the only difference is that ME-60 has a "First Day Cover * Via Air Mail" border. You can view the entire collection here and images of the cachets I'm still searching for here.

The latest addition to the collection, Mellone lists this W.G. Crosby cachet as 929-30. I now have both the hand and machine cancels.

After a 7 month dry spell, I've finally been able to add another of the missing cachets to my collection; a hand-painted cover by Mae Weigand that is categorized in Mellone's as ME-39. The composite image of my collection and remaining want list have been updated in the original post on this thread. A depiction of the cachets that I still need may be viewed here.

Curious bayonet placement on top of the barrel instead of beneath.

As long as we're being picky, the rifle doesn't have a trigger either.

tomiseksj, I was watching a philatelic Youtuber called Silk on the Web and he did a Mother's day antique store trip with his family. In Grand Rapids, Minnesota he found some interesting covers including an Iwo Jima cover with bi-color cachet. I thought you might be interested in watching: Collecting Stamps in the Wild Ep. 7 -- In Lake Country

At 8:04 into the video, he shows one of the souvenirs he brought back from his trip -- an FDC with Ken Boll cachet like the one shown below:
