Here are two values of nine from the unissued Guaqui La Paz railroad commemoratives, usually listed as 1915, occasionally listed as 1914. Scott mentions them but does not give them numbers. I believe SG treats them similarly. The 50c locomotive: and the high value, 5-bolivianos: It is an attractive little set. Alas, it has been forged. (What hasn't?) I haven't sought out the notes for the forgeries, so I can't opine on mine until I do. (I note that Scott mentions typograph forgeries, but has no other details, so I don't know if that statement is complete, or if there are others, too.) Guaqui was the port of entry for Bolivia on Lake Titicaca, which, at 12,500 feet above sea level, is the highest lake in the world regularly served by passenger ships.

Hi frog Ok. Hopefully you speak Spanish or, at minimum read it. Otherwise Google Translate does a good job. From Google.Bolivia: Search Term: Filatelia Bolivia www.filateliabolivia.com/parausuarios/CatalogosBolivia.aspxStanley Gibbons Part 20 Yvert & Tellier Timbres d´Amérique du Sud de Argentine à Venezuela The oldest Scott Catalog that you can find. I use a 1926 catalog. The old catalogs contain issues that are now considered spurious. Note: See my post thestampforum.boards.net/post/27144Jerry B

Hi frog Did some more digging. This is the catalog you, probably, should have: www.abebooks.com/book-search/title/cefilco/But $30 shipping from Argentina is nuts. Try eBay, or mercado libre, for better shipping price. Jerry B

Hi frog I believe that. I thought that an old Scott would be the 1940's not a 1926 Each of the catalogs I mentioned vary in the information presented. Jerry B

Hi frog
Use Chrome browser and the Chrome translate button in the upper right, next to the star. You do not need Babylon. The Chrome translate function may not translate a web page 100% but is more than adequate.
Note: In MercadoLibre a $ is the currency of the Mercado country.
Frog: if you want the Album Weeds extract, send me your e-mail address to jerrybemail-stamps 'at' yahoo 'dot' com. If you don't want it, let me know. It is really necessary for the first issues in determining fakes.
If you need help with anything, email me.

Frog - nice start to a new country. Just check the perfs on the 9 star 1894 coat of arms series, 13, 13.5 and thick paper are reprints from original plates made in very large quantities. Unused ones are OK and were generally accepted but any with heavy bar cancels are probably fakes like the one below
[Moderator edit - this image has been deleted by this user and is irretrievable]
The 11 star ones look good. The 9 & 11 star 500c was the main target being so valuable
Crude forgeries often have no fine lines in the inner oval, just solid color or cancels with concentric circles. Some have spelling errors
EDIT - corrected the above perforations noted by JerryB - memory failure and another later forgery in mind - too much info

Hi nl1947
Just check perfs on the 9 star is adequate? Earee's Album Weeds says perf 12, if I am reading the right section.

So I am trying to get started with this new endeavor. The first thing I picked up is of course #1.If you look at these you'll notice first the cross hatching on the birds breast differs immensely.Next there are two color choices, yellow green and green. If my eyes are still somewhat good the last two stamps fall into the blue spectrum. Tough way to start a new country.

Tough way to start a new country. You are knee deep in a minefield with this one 4 printings with die redesigns, 6 retouches, many color variations, design differences, bogus issues, 1890 reprints and a slew of forgers. Aside from genuine unused being uncommon as most were fiscally used (about 80%) and pen cancelled

So at least today I got started on these. Not surprising I seem to have started with the earliest issue.I've become partial to imperfs.Quite sure the forgeries are present here.

Another issue you may run across in those crazy box lots. A note from Scott catalog. I believe I'm missing the 1B value.

Can't say I'm disappointed with this new collection. These are issues printed by Waterlow & Sons, they remind me a bit of French issues.A very nicely done endeavor.
