Just wanted to bat around an idea with folks on here:
It's about time (in March) for Scott to start releasing its 2015 catalogues. Assuming it goes the way it has for the past few years, Volume 1 should be US (non-specialized) & countries A-B. They're issued at the rate of one volume/month, so Volume 6 would be released in August, then the US Specialized comes out in September, with the worldwide Classic Specialized bringing up the rear in October.
I have a full set of the 2014 (including 2014 US Specialized, but 2013 Classic). I don't know if I have the stomach to buy the full run in 2015, but I will for sure get Volume 4 (assuming it's 'J-M').
Would there be others who are thinking about getting one of the volumes, and who'd like to collaborate to check for updated prices for each other upon request? I could be responsible for 'J-M' countries.
I'm thinking maybe the way to make it manageable is, when one of us has a request to check current catalogue values, to prepare a little spreadsheet with the catalogue numbers and the most recent catalogue values that that person already has (ideally, no more than 2-3-4? years old). There would be blank columns on the spreadsheet for the 2015 data. (We can easily create a template that everyone could use, to keep it consistent.)
The recipient of that spreadsheet checks those most recent values provided by the requestor against the new 2015 catalogue, and only inputs data into the spreadsheet if the CV has changed. That way, most of the data-gathering and input would be done by the requestor. Since many values don't change from year to year (although there are always exceptions, of course), I'm thinking this may not be as burdensome as it might appear at first blush.
We would be working together offline, and not publishing any data anywhere, so I believe this would comply with copyright laws. (It is my intention to do so.)
Thoughts? Changes? What would it take to make this work?
Also, I'd be happy to take this discussion offline once we know who's interested.
Here's the list of the volume breakdowns for 2014. They've stayed stable for the last several years, but it's always subject to change.
vol 1: US (& possessions), UN & A-B
vol 2: C-F
vol 3: G-I
vol 4: J-M
vol 5: N-Sam
vol 6: San-Z
US Specialized (if possible)
Classic Specialized
Feel free to contact me directly if you'd prefer.
