German Lost Colonies labels produced in the early 1920's as a reminder of Germany's great Imperial past ! The labels show the Imperial Flag at half-mast and the image of the Kaiser's Yacht used on the German Colonies Postage Stamps. (SMS Hohenzollern) The Black border tells the sad ending. They were printed in sheets of 20 (5x4)

I no longer own these stamps but I just came across the image on my laptop and it brought back memories of a very dear and trusted exchange partner in Nova Scotia with whom I traded for many years until his passing a couple of years ago. His main collection was Hexagonal-shaped stamps and Cinderellas and I sent him these as part of one of our deals. Not a full set. 1914 Graphics/Books Exhibition in Leipzig. Memories are forever...........

Bavarian royal family, pre 1913. Issued by the Bavarian Association for Fighting Tuberculosis. Luitpold reigned as Prince Regent for 26 years after he had King Ludwig II ('Mad King' Ludwig) and Ludwig's brother, Otto declared insane. Ludwig died, possibly killed trying to escape, soon after being deposed. Scan_20200630 (6) by Daniel, on Flickr

These three beautiful stamps, with silver and gold metallic ink, celebrate the wedding of Princess Victoria Louise of Prussia and Prince Ernest Augustus of Hanover on 24th May 1913. Victoria Louise was the daughter of the German Emperor Wilhelm II. The father of Ernest Augustus held the British title of the Duke of Cumberland but because of World War I Ernest was not allowed to inherit the title. Both Victoria Louise and Ernest Augustus were related to the British Royal Family. Scan_20200630 (7) by Daniel, on Flickr

As a long time collector of Poster Stamps/Cinderellas, I would state equivocally that Germany has produced some of the most beautiful miniature works of art on Poster Stamps. What do you think?

Being, also, a long time poster stamp collector, although I try to concentrate in Catalan ones, I fully agree that the (mainly pre-1945) German and Austrian poster stamps (I won't dare to call them "cinderellas") are the best ever made.

Landshuter Hochzeit 1475 (Landshut Wedding)This wedding was between Hedwig, daughter of the King of Poland, and George, the son of the Duke of Bavaria in 1475 in the town of Landshut. It was a major alliance and celebration with 10,000 people in attendance. From 1903, a regular festival was held, initially annually then every 3 or 4 years with the next one due in 2021. The townsfolk dress in medieval costumes and the men are encouraged to grow their hair long in the style of the time. Visitors are not permitted to wear costumes so as to maintain standards! The first 5 stamps depict the parade (I'm missing one stamp in the series) Scan_20200515 (6) by Daniel, on Flickr

Huh; I had no idea about the Landshut Wedding. Thanks daniel . It looks like an amazing town fest: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landshut_Wedding I asked my wife; she's German but never heard of it. No wonder. She's from Baden-Württemberg, not Bavaria; Germans take their federalism/regionalism so seriously.
Not a cinderella, but thematic:

Otto von Bismarck-Schönhausen, 1815-1898, was an influential German statesman responsible for the unification of Germany in 1871 and who then became its first chancellor until he was dismissed by Wilhelm II (Kaiser Bill). These stamps, probably issued around 1905, are 16 stamps from a set of at least 48 outlining his life. Usually when you find a blank cartouche on Cinderellas, they were meant for possible advertising purposes. Scan_20200612 by Daniel, on Flickr

Here is a set of 4 very attractive poster stamps from about 1915 depicting scenes from Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle; Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung. Printed in Munich, these poster stamps were designed by Emil Pirchan (1884-1957). Born in Brno, Pirchan set up an architectural school, worked in stage design, was a graphic designer and became a Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna.Scan_20200907 by Daniel, on Flickr

Gott Strafe England !!! Yes, well OK then. There are many different propaganda labels and sheets with the same damning headline and the two shown below are from a longer set that for some reason appear quite popular. They are the only two I managed to procure. The German Slogan 'Gott strafe England' was, oddly enough, created by a Jew. As I understand it, Ernst Lissauer was one of only a small number of the German-Jewish population who had leanings towards the Homeland but his words were re-created a million times over not only on Propaganda labels but also Posters, envelopes, letterheads, crests, buckles, Jewelry, signs to name but a few. The words were adopted by the German Army in the lead up to, and during, World War 1. Lissauer also wrote the poem 'Hymn of Hate' (Hassgesang Gegen) The labels shown here may have been printed in Linz, Austria.

German Mikado poster stamps commemorating the life and times of Napoleon Bonaparte. I came across these while I was looking for French cinderellas and find them very attractive. They appear to be from the early 20th century, maybe given away with chocolates or preserves ? Maybe daniel can shed more light on these ?

anglobob there are many German Cinderellas celebrating victories over Napoleon in 1813 at Leipzig and then at Waterloo in 1815 by Prussian General von Blucher. I do not think that they were produced by Mikado Chocolate, rather an area of the stamp was left blank for advertising purposes, as was common at the time (see also my von Bismarck Cinderellas a couple of posts above), and could be used by a variety of companies. Here is one of the orange border series simply overprinted for 100th anniversary of the Leipzig campaign: Napoleon by Daniel, on Flickr

Here are 5 different lots of German Cinderellas celebrating the 100th anniversary of The Battle of the Nations at Leipzig in 1813, when Prusssia, Austria, Sweden and Russia defeated Napoleon's Grande Armée. They mainly celebrate Field Marshal von Blücher and other prominent characters including Napoleon. Together, they are interesting in so far as demonstrating the various types of advertising used at this time. The first row have cartouches for advertising, although unused in these examples, by different companies. The second row, middle, is a blatant advertising poster stamp for cleaning products by Fritz Schultz jun. in Leipzig, either side are purely historical commemoratives. The third row are advertising stamps produced by Franz Kathreiners Coffee. Finally, the fourth row, shows 3 examples from a large series with advertising space on the left, in this case for Richard Held margarine makers. Historical description on the right. The Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger (DGzRS)(literally the German-Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked Persons} or German Maritime Search and Rescue Association (The German equivalent of the British Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI)) was founded in 1865 and operate in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Stamps have been issued for many years for fundraising purposes or as receipts (quittungsmarke) for contributions. Here is an early example: Scan_20200516 (5) by Daniel, on Flickr This is an example on cover used instead of a postage stamp: Scan_20200515 (4) by Daniel, on Flickr Another example used on a flown rocket mail card (by Gerhard Zucker): Scan_20200515 (5) by Daniel, on Flickr An example used on a ship cover (shown front and back): Scan_20210121 by Daniel, on Flickr Scan_20210121 (2) by Daniel, on Flickr Finally, 2 mint sheets of later designs: Scan_20200515 (3) by Daniel, on Flickr

Two more amazing poster stamps from Germany. The first one is for an International Exhibition of Fine Arts held in Dresden from 1st May to 30th September 1897. Helpfully with German, English, French and Italian text. Beautifully printed in in blue and gold metallic ink (or gold leaf) on fine tracing paper. The second stamp is for a seemingly all encompassing exhibition: 'Berliner Spring Fair 1898 from 10th to 16th March 1898. Combined with a general exhibition of patented inventions and innovations protected by law' !! Scan_20210123 (3) by Daniel, on Flickr
