Of course Canada Post issued some stamps recently of the Bluenose. I want to get an album page or two made up of all the stamps relating to the Bluenose. There are a few!
Here are the souvenir sheets recently issued, one with a CAPEX '22 overprint...

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

This is not really stamp related but I thought the few other members with a Nova Scotia background would enjoy this oil on canvas painting of a schooner in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia where the Bluenose and Bluenose II were built. I inherited this item when my mother passed. The painting is by the Lunenburg artist Earl Bailly who painted with his teeth. His bio can be found in this link: www.lunenburgartgallery.com/earl-bailly

As Canada continues to recognize the famous schooner Bluenose's 100th anniversary the CBC here released this article and video of the sad story of the loss of Neil Robitaille from the Bluenose II on January 8, 1969. My friends Craig Harding and David Rawding(deceased) were also part of the crew. Craig was washed overboard as well but miraculously was rescued. He still struggles some with survivors guilt. Here is a link for the article:. hdm1950 - What a story (please read previous post and link) !! Thanks for sharing it - René

Canada's 50 cent stamp from 1929 is one of my top 10 favorites. Does anyone know where I can get one at a reasonable price?

From a Canadian Seller I know very well in Montreal (Farnham) and I have dealt with ++, not too bad in $US - I can even bargain for you - Unitrade Value 2021= $350$C There is an M-XF-LH for $325$C (too high for me) - They have lower $C priced ones also - René

René ( renden), your generous and helpful spirit does you great credit. I think it is a bit of an overstatement to say that you were “suckered” in this case. Truly being played for a sucker means being swindled, which wasn’t the case. Anyway, if I don’t win the Bluenose Giveaway, I will be looking for an affordable copy for my collection, so I, for one, appreciate the reference you gave. Thanks for that!

I will not forget this incidence but do pardon the offense !! - René

The Canadian Postal Archives has a bit of background information on the stamp and a few tidbits about the ship. If you haven't found it already have a look here; Canadian Postal Archive: Bluenose

Canada #158 - Bluenose I've been scanning some of my stamps recently for inventory purposes and I after scanning my Bluenose, I've notice this white mark above the right 5 of the 50. Has anyone ever seen this before? I have done a bit of research on the web, but so far not successful in finding this variant. The first picture is scan at 300dpi and the second one at 1200dpi. There is also a bit of white spots in the scroll above "cents". Opinions are welcome!

The Bluenose is a classic Schooner, the schooner was a very versatile ship type, at the time of its widespread use it was one of the most useful ships for a wide variety of tasks, as the rig allowed the ship to sail in almost any breeze or wind, and they were handy in small channels and rivers. They were used all over the North American region, and thousands were built on both coasts, and lasted some 50 -60 years if well maintained barring accidents and wrecks. They needed only a small crew, could load and unload just about any cargo and with a skilled master could achieve a lot. They were used for fishing, cargo carrying, lumber carrying, mixed freight and passengers and were one of my all time favorite ship types. Interestingly enough they were widely used in teh American Civil War to carry ammunition as there was no steam engine aboard to threaten explosions. the booms were used to load and unload cargo as well as for controlling the huge sail area the sails could be reefed or shortened for any weather and due to the slim long lines they were very hand in just about any type of sea. they could sail very close to the wind. The Bluenose was famed at both her work, carrying the largest load of fish the fastest to port at one point and for 20 years of racing. this site has a film of the original ship, there have been two replicas both made from the same original plans in the same ship yard.

Nice stamp. Kind of shocking (to me) to think about, but she* was only ten years old at the time?
*the ship, not the stamp
