In my shoebox of South Africa I have found literally hundreds of the 1954 animals. However, not a single one of the later re-issues. Is this simply a coincidence or am I missing something here? Thanks in advance.

Possibly a dated shoebox Tony, the collector who stored them there, may have only collected till decimilisation, the decimal definitives are reasonably common in my experience.
My South African stamps are in a right mess, so unable to offer any duplicates right now.

in view of the date of the original post, those images seem to have disappeared. Can't imagine anyone unaware of the U. of S.A. '1954 Animal issues' - they seem to turn up commonly - and whilst I don't actively collect the decimal issues, thought it might be of interest to show a couple from the original pre-decimal 1954 printing. These are plate flaws and possibly less than common. The African Elephant - SG 156 - 4d. value, indigo and emerald - from row 1 stamp 6 - seen here with broken leg of the A in Africa. plus the Hippopotamus 4.1/2d. value - SG 157 - the blue-black and grey-blue - found in row 2 stamp 9 - this has the short limb in the u of Suid One or two more pix to come from pre-decimal issues.
