Well, here is the cover page and then the first three pages of the album. I'm sure you will "get" the idea after that. I'll check into Michel's book and see what I can find.
And so on ... Nice work, nice preamble, I like an introductory page. PS: Nice work also, Steve.

Very nice stamp. I just sent in my membership for ESU, are you a member? I'm excited to learn more. Tell me, the "U"'s in the corners, are they embossed or just part of the printing?

I am not a member. The only Europa stamps I collect are the ones issued by Ukraine. Maybe when I catch up on my Ireland collection, I might consider hopping on Europa.

Well I was zooming away on the album and came to a screaming halt. Really bummed me out. Ran out of mounts! Waiting for them to come in the mail, maybe mid-February or later February. Then it will be full steam ahead and hopefully I can finish that huge project.

I came back to this old post. In this yearset, two issues were missing, Bosnia-Herzegovina Croazia (Mostar) and Bosnia-Herzegovina Serbia... It's not difficult to find them, maybe the Serbian minisheets are expansive, but the single stamp could be enough... But if the basic subject of the year is pretty nice, the Croazia's stamp is hugly... I have my own idea, but what do you see looking this stamp?

This is not a stamp, but a so called "epreuve de luxe", a luxe proof? This kind of objects are common of the french area. I don't have the Yvert, but i believe they're quoted on the catalog. They're just sheetlet issued by french post, usually given as gifts, not sure if you can buy them. In my mind, objects especially prepared for collectionist, like black prints prepared by other postal administration...

Your scan of the 2000 Europa stamps shows nicely, why there is a footnote in the Michel catalogue, following the self-adhesive stamp from Germany. It reads: "Die ungebraucht-Preise bei MiNr.2012 (EXPO 2000 self-adhesive) und 2114 (Europa self-adhesive) gelten auch für Marken mit abgelöster Gummierung." Translating to:
The mint-prices for Mi.no. 2012 and 2114 are also for stamps with the gum removed.
The reason for that is,that the gum is going to destroy the stamps,so it is advisable to remove it. Your stamp shows signs of the browning, what ultimately will make the stamp to become spoilt.

Thank you very much! I noted the toning, but didn't go throught a lot... What do you think i should do? To remove the glue from a self-adhesive stamps is not that easy...

What happened to the common design theme? I don't collect Europa as a unit, but do have them in various countries that I collect.
That one ugly stamp looks like two ivory love birds kissing. But what happened to the pillar of 5 stars? That would be one stamp I would leave out of my collection!
I never noticed that comment before WRT the German self adhesive. Ah well, if it turns brown, it turns brown. Much like that USA Christmas self adhesive from 1974!

The common subject has been abbandoned in 1973 and replaced with a common theme, that every partecipating country could interpretate by itself. The basic principle of the first issue of 1956 was just the community of interests and objectives: Let's build Europe. But a common subject was easy to keep when the partecipating countries were just few. How was the common subject been choosen? Every year, each country was asked to send two/three draft, and a contest was held to choose among all the draft received. I want to believe that the complexity to make such mechanism work was the true reason, but maybe also the interest of the collectionists was not anymore like the beginning... Anyway, in 1984 for the 25 years of CEPT, in 2000 for the new millenium, and in 2016 with the "Think green" slogan, the Europa issues came back to the common subject as the beginning. And i collect Europa up to 1973, plus 1984 and 2000...

I don't collect Europa as a topical, but if a country I collect has a joint issue with other countries, I try to include an example of the other nation's issue. For Europa that would be a bit much, so I just save the Europa common design issues from the collections I have sold and add them to my Ireland collection (for example.)

I collect Europa issues, but from Western European issuing countries only, as Eastern Europe is outside my collecting area, except for some very specific cases. I have almost every issue up to 1992, then it gets spotty. The rest is still on my wish list, but pretty far down, considering the price the full sets can go for.

I noted the toning, but didn't go throught a lot... What do you think i should do? To remove the glue from a self-adhesive stamps is not that easy... I would remove the stamp from it´s backing paper and stick it on some paper like from an envelope. Then I would wash it the usual way,i.e. leave in warm water, still it can be easily removed. The "gum" then should remain on the paper and the stamp would be clean. I do not collect mint modern Germany, but have some used duplication of that stamp. They are all clean,so there was no problem to get them washed. But of course I do not know, wether the consistency of the "gum" has been changed due to the browning. One can only give it a try. Personally,I would use the stamp for mailing,as it is still valid. But that may not be an option for you.

In Europe, we had the CEPT, now we have PostEurop... But to think to an unique europen postal administration, that's too difficult... Well, difficult... in the USA there is USPS, in China the China post... There is an unique currency, but if i purchase a stamp in Italy, i can't use it in France or in Germany... The question: Where is the common subject of the first Europa issues? has a simple question... There is no more the wish to do it... I always try to think it's too complicate... I'm a romantic guy... This just for "it may not be a valid option for me"...
But for the rest, i will keep the stamp like it is, with the addition of the sentence taken from the Michel catalog about the problems of the gum... I don't think the browining could extend to the other stamps if it's a problem just of the gum and not of other kind of infection...
I will try to find a better stamp to add to complete the picture...
As for to remove the gum, i normally use exane to soak off a stamp from paper, but exane doesn't remove the glue, just soften it... Detached the stamp from the paper, how will i remove the gum from the stamp? That's what i don't like of self adhesive stamps...

ameis33, your two Europa threads have been merged into this one. Here are a few more from Italy: 1956 60 lire (Scott 716) 1961 70 lire (Scott 864)

salentin, I read yesterday the recommendation for Michel 2112 and 2114 stamps. The entire MH 40 booklet of 10 Mi 2112 stamps is affected by this browning phenomenon. The edges of all the stamps are detached from the support and it seems that the contact of the rubber with the air produces this browning. The stamp came off very easily and I noticed that all the gum was hardened and more than half remained on the support. I have enough destroyed stamps to try different methods of removing hardened gum. I think I will try this spray (neutral PH) which worked very well for cleaning some labels on the windows
