Penny Black on postage stampsThank you Londonbus1 for giving the okay for a new thread!! Here are a couple of my favorite Penny Black Anniversary stamps: This Penny Black 100th Anniversary stamp comes in a rainbow of colors. The full set was out of my price range (about $150) so I did the next best thing and bought the single in purple. This First Day Cover from the 1970 London International Stamp Exhibition not only has a Penny Black 130th Anniversary stamp but in addition it has two other Queen Victoria issues and the cachet shows profiles of both Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II. (That is a lot of royalty on one small envelope!!) I am in the process of transferring all of my stamp photos to PhotoBucket so I will be posting more soon. Rolinda

That has always been one of my favourite stamp-on-stamp issues. I like the fact that the Victorian stamps get so much coverage. No big artistic frame, no mountain of text. Some stamp-on-stamp issues show nice classics that I would never see otherwise, but then they gob a bunch of other stuff on the same design. "A lot of feathers and not much chicken." ha ha

Penny Black on postage stampsHi All..... On my first post in this thread I posted a pix of the stamp on the left that is now my avatar. At the time I purchased the individual purple the full set of 10 stamps was being sold on ebay for around $150. Well out of my price range being retired and all. But today was my lucky day!!!! I have been waiting for several days for a particular auction to conclude. I got the senior discount to beat all senior discounts when I won the auction this afternoon and yours truly is the now the proud owner of the full set of 10 stamps!!! I got them for under $40 including shipping!!! The only thing that could make it better would be if the dealer used a couple of hands full of Penny Blacks, Penny Reds and Two Penny Blues instead of bubble wrap!!! LOL!!! Here they are..... More colors than a package of Skittles!!!!!

Queen Victoria. As collectors we are tuned to the graven image of the Queen. Here is another perspective, quite a lovely lass.....

Here's a 1990 issue from Liechtenstein to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Penny Black. And 150 rappen face value, too! I would guess this is a cutout from a first day cover. Why a soccer ball on the cancellation? On the same day (May 5), Liechtenstein also issued a stamp for the 1990 World Cup. Perhaps there was a joint FDC for both commemoratives (or maybe the wrong special postmark was placed on this stamp). Ryan

Cook Islands: Scott #1038 Very nice! The lower right stamp in your block is relevant to my interests ... many, many years ago I made a fitful start on a topical collection of Albrecht Dürer stamps. I was an exchange student once upon a time in Nuremberg, Dürer's home town. I've been enthralled by his work ever since. Ryan (who is always eager to add in a classic LOLcat image ....)
