Is there someone I should contact to show this variety to?? It is not mentioned in the Marler handbook which I am told is THE authority on this issue. The reason we study stamps is evident these things pop up now and then and launch more investigation to figure the plate and position as well as time frame it was printed.I just love having weird stuff and need no further reason.

As a note of thanks I was unaware of the little steam out of the tea kettle trick to check for vertical or horizontal wove paper til I read small queens thread earlier this year. The ten cent blue of this issue is a must check stamp for the paper.A horizontal wove paper lists at $200 used.I haven't found one yet but, have another hundred or so to check.I got lots more luope work on this issue to go,so it's back to work I go.Another reason this forum is an asset to the collector.Anyone had a chance to examine that four cent I posted?? It very well may be a unique stamp as Marler made no mention of it.

Much to my surprise I found not one but two re-drawn spandrells in this bunch. If you look at upper right triangle you'll notice a vertical line added to close the horizontal shading lines.the one on the right has serious over inking including in the bottom margin.I ask you to look this up in Unitrade for yourself.Decent $CV any interest in these I can put them in the auction.

I received this in a lot of floorsweepings today, Cancelled what looks like an Hexagonal or Octagonal Date stamp (indecipherable) with light blue-green ink, and a red line ruled through. (Parcel block?) Anyone have any insights?

Have seen the red line bit before but no idea how or why it was used.I do love that block though. Straight edge stamps are my big soft spot anyway,as are used blocks especially large pieces (6 or more).

I forgot to mention that the little blue gem was along with about another seventy or so other admirals.I can't seem to shake this issue completely.

(Parcel block?) Anyone have any insights? Rod, This block is quite interesting. If you look at Scott 90iv, you will see this same/similar red line marking on the 2c Edward VII stamp. This comes in red and black line. I have never seen this on the Admiral Issue, only the 2c Edward. Here is an example from eBay but you may be able to find other examples on the web with this new information.

Thanks Jim, I presume you meant "Unitrade #90iv" Yes, very interesting. I don't think mine fit, I get the feeling mine were pen scribed, not printed, and the carmine looks fugitive. Heaven knows where that block is now, I have not mounted many Canada as yet. It is curious as to why nobody has suggested how those printed lines originated.

My thoughts on Rods block (of stamps!) is that blue octagonal cancel is probably a bank cancel. Possibly the admirals were used to pay tax on what may have been a very large cheque, or possibly a stock certificate. I have a number of old cheques with octagonal cancels, as well as oval, circular, square, rectangle, and fancy schmancy!
The red line, I have no idea, but it does seem to have suffered in the soaking off of whatever document it serviced.

Would explain my opinion on the hand ruled red line, I could see that as a bank procedure.

This is an old photo and I think I kept one of the cheques but sold the rest at auction. Look at the one on the far right. It has a triangular hand stamp. The Admiral Issue stamps were also used on quite a number of bag tags, luggage, parcels, money orders, etc. Quite an array of usages for stamps and possibly a good area to specialise.

here are a couple from my collection. The Canadian Bank of Commerce seemed to favour the octagonal rubber stamps.

Here's an interesting coil pulled from stockbook,#131.Is it an ink error probably but then could be a mis registered imprint. One I'll add to my pages either way.

#107 Admiral is this a minor re-entry or just an inking error?

I purchased a lot of Admirals because I spotted a couple of those straight edge corner stamps (see wanted more dead than alive thread),there were also a couple perfins to add to my meager collection of these as well.Of interest I spotted this one. Now compare it to this one listed looks pretty close to me.Unlisted.

Seem to have misplaced information somehow. Can anyone provide link as to plating locations for re-entries? I have quite a few straight edge leftovers that I should check because somewhere in my feeble mind I remember a lot of the re-entries were in the rows with straight edges.

Steve nope that's not it.I checked flyspeckers as well.Wish I could remember where I saw that information no matter I really need to move on from this issue as well as the large queens.I think the first cent issue is the next step.

I picked up another lot of admirals (surprise) to work on my straight edge stamps(see wanted more dead than alive thread) this little item caught my eye so back to the digital microscope and I found this subtle addition of diagonal shading lines over the shoulder on the 5 cent stamp. Is this a re-touched plate?

renden I have to admit I've forgotten more than I remember about the Admiral issue.I spent at least one full year basically studying this issue.I need not tell you how many copies I examined but it was tough on the eyes .I put them aside to move on to the large queens and have struggled for the past year to set that issue aside as well.Unsucessfully of course just this week I opened three new purchases awaiting final examination as of now.At least I avoided the centennials so far.

firstfrog2013 , I agree with you - As for myself, have not studied them as much - so you are the "expert" ! 2 of my favourites - Unitrade (Scott) 120 and 122.....122 is not the best mint copy around.....will shop for a better one but it fills a hole René

renden when I was building my fledgling collection I insisted on MNH so my admirals are now worth many times what I paid for them fifty years ago.I am sometimes very shocked by the selling prices of stamps I purchased back then with my few extra teen age dollars.I have tried many times recently to come up with not a catalog value for my collection but a realistic market value in order to give my spouse some idea.To date it hasn't/can't be done! My own estimate is pushing high six figures but could be a bit higher I guess, as I tend to under estimate due to being stuck in the ice age.Not what it's about to me but I try to stay real and face mortality as my fate.A good feeling to leave something behind for those I love and share this life with.I specified that the collection could not be broken up or sold for twenty years after my passing. It will force the inheritors to research it a bit before randomly selling it.The liquid assets are my guitars and other music equipment which everyone has already put claim to which they want.In the meantime I'm enjoying my time and thankful for the fellowship here with my friends.
P.S. I have the paperback version of that book. The five cent is probably the most extensive text of them all.

firstfrog2013 , great to hear your story and experience.....I do find the Admirals to be (for MNH) too costly for what they are worth.....would you have a spare 122 (just kidding.....willing to $) Ebay lists it around $30 and that is US !! and I did not see MNH-VF René p.s. You have the paperback and I have the Hard cover.....what is the difference in "data" LOL - Good
