Native Postal Runner 1972 Looks a little modern for mine, perhaps some artistic licence. I always recall him as "The Cleft Stick Postman" Exist : Native Postal Runner , Congo (On Postage Due triangle) and Liberia Genuine Runner, Country of origin unknown.

Sc# 345> Sc # C294> Appears to me Titian had the same muse, for Madonna in the 3 paintings. The 350 Fr "Madonna of the Rabbit" the hand maiden is supposed to be Saint Catherine of Alexandria (with a broken wheel at her feet) Dashed if I can see it !
Any young lad who has lit a firework, a "Catherine Wheel" firework, it is from her, the name comes from.Sc# 308>

I have one stamp from the country from the 1959-76 period. Al, every journey begins with 1 step. I have never bought a C.A.R. stamp, they come in swaps, the early butterflies are common. They don't seem to attract collectors, due to their excessive emisions.

The Empire is such a bizarre story that I cannot help but collect that period.

Note that these Central African Airways issues are from a different Central Africa - in this case, the English language and shilling currency are associated with the former Rhodesia & Nyasaland. CAA was the flag carrier for that federation. Ryan

Bokassa, the dictator of CAR, thought the country was overlooked due to its location and generic name. So in 1977 he crowned himself Emperor, and renamed his realm the Central African Empire.
In 1979, he was overthrown in a French-assisted coup. It was discovered that the palace freezer was full of the dead bodies of political prisoners, and that they were cooked for the Emperor's dinner.
