Dahomey (now Benin) Forgeries Thanks CS The saving grace is the "faux" opt Good to know they exist, and included in your forgery list, but do you consider them really "forgeries" per se?

The faux is only present on some of the forgeries. It Can be removed.

The two Dahomey pages from my grandfather's Harris album. Most of my stamps I didn't want to hinge in there, so will be posted separately.

In 1940 the first 5 airmail stamps for Dahomey are issued: Notice the appearance of the "Afrique Occidentale Française" notation in the top frieze (it's already on the René Caillié issue, but as part of the map). All constituent countries of the AOF have the same airmail issue stamps.

A new series of definitives was issued in 1941. All stamps now carry an AOF mention:

To accompany the 1941 definitives set, a new set of postage due stamps was also issued (again with the AOF mention): Compare those to the Vichy France re-issues in 1943, already seen on my album pages above: The "RF" mention in the top left corner is replaced by a second mention of the face value. Since Dahomey was part of Free France, those Vichy issues were never used postally.

The horizontal design from the 1941 definitive series was re-used for the Pétain series issued by Vichy France (again never postally used). These are the last standard postage stamps from Dahomey before the switch to French West Africa, until independence in 1960.

The last French Dahomey issue sets to have a documented postal use are from the two French colonial series of air mail stamps for the protection of indigenous children (the horizontal designs, different for each issuing country) and the imperial fortnight series (the vertical blue stamp, common design for all colonies).

Like several other francophone African countries at the time, Dahomey chose se-tenant triangular stamps for its first postage due issues, here featuring transportation themes:
There are also stamps at 10Fr and 30Fr values, which I haven't been able to get yet.
