BG, I'm glad you've reposted these here. I think they would have gotten lost in the Canadian revenue thread. Thanks, James! It was my gaffe, as I had not realized that the other thread was part of the Canada board. Clearly, I need to do a more thoughtful job of navigating the Forum before making posts. It was a good lesson for me. I am always a big believer in giving credit where it is due, so I want to be sure to let you know that it was your posts in the Canada Liquor & Tobacco Strips thread that inspired me to make this post in the first place. Glad I finally figured out where it actually belonged.... Anyway, thanks!

Nevada Liquor Tax StampI know almost nothing about these kinds of stamps, but I have found a few of these items in an old collection which I was given, so thought I would post an image or two here to see if anyone else on TSF can tell me more about these. I did an internet search on this Nevada liquor tax stamp, and found a similar image of one of these which was cancelled in 1939, so perhaps that can give us a general idea of when these stamps were issued and in service. As a point of interest, I found a similar stamp currently for sale on eBay, and the listing contains a bit more information about this item. I also noted that the eBay item is in very poor condition, as it has multiple tears, and is missing a fairly large piece. My copy is a bit wrinkled and creased, but at least it is sound and fully intact. www.ebay.com/itm/Nevada-Liquor-Tax-Revenue-Stamp-Six-Cents-Green-Sep-1939-Reno-Levi-Zentaer-Co-/121320287146 This is a 1935-44 Nevada, #L2, 6 Cent brt green, Beer, Liquor, & Wine Tax stamp. These were actually used on various container sizes of beer.

Not sure what I did wrong, but the last line of the above post is what I tried to post. Here it is again:

I find some of these quite attractive and have been searching for information thus far without luck. I'll keep searching and add snippets when I find them. The red 5 cent - 1933-1939 Ohio Wine Tax stamp # W1. The purple 1 1/2 cent - 1938 Ohio Malt Beverage Tax stamp #B95. The last 3 are - 1947 Ohio Wine & Mixed Beverage Tax stamps #WL75, WL76, and WL81 respectively. These are what I collect along with the Ohio Sales Tax stamps.

All fixed now and thanks for the info. Londonbus1 EDIT: What catalogue are you using ?

Thanks. I am still figuring this site out some days. I am using "The State Revenue Catalog" that rod222 listed at the top of the posting. I use it every day so when I found this post, I figured I would fill in the blanks for everyone. I am currently putting together my Ohio & Georgia Revenue Collections. The bottom three stamps that you show, actually have several variations depending on the perforations, So I just gave the main numbers.

Beryllium Guy, the Nevada 6 cent stamp you show is $10.00 - 15.00 in mint and $4.00 in used.

...What catalogue are you using ? The next revision of the State Revenue Catalog will once again include the Ohio Prepaid Sales Tax Stamps so if you're interested in acquiring a copy you might want to wait for that edition's release. I haven't seen a projected timeline but will occasionally check the State Revenue Society website to see if any information has been posted about the upcoming revision.

Thanks Steve. I had heard that but wasn't sure if they were going to include the OSTS in the new book. I guess I will have to buy a new copy then. Do you know if they are going to use Deane's numbers or keep the numbers they have been using? The only thing I disagree with Deane on is that a lot of the color differences are just faded colors to me. I actually have some books that the top stamps are faded and look like the lighter colors he has listed but the stamps inside are the darker colors since the sun or light has never hit them. I am sure it is extremely hard to try to figure out how to make a book and try to include all stamps, especially since not all stamps are known about. His book has taught me so much though, I never would have even tried to accumulate the collection I have now without the help of his book. It was worth every penny I paid for it. The same goes for the State Revenue Catalog. It has made collecting my State revenues so much easier and told me what I am actually looking for.

...Do you know if they are going to use Deane's numbers or keep the numbers they have been using? ... The 1st Quarter 2017 edition of State Revenue News (No. 312) included a spotlight on Jeff Hofius, the recently-appointed catalog editor. In it he said "...I have also written a listingfor Ohio Sales Tax...I plan to include an easy-to-use listing in the third edition of the SRS catalog..." In the next three SRN issues he provided an overview of his listing and it is not like Monte's system. It seems that stamps will be numbered sequentially by printer (e.g., CO1 thru CO145, ME1 thru ME58, etc). I figured I'd wait for the revision to come out before deciding if I wanted to change my system or just create a cross-reference of numbers similar to what Monte had done for his system and those of Hubbard and Malehorn & Davenport.

Has anyone seen duplicate serial numbers on Ohio State Tax Stamps? The reason I ask is that I bought some original partial boxes of Reserve Litho Ohio stamps and in the 6 cent box, the 3000's are all the same. I have 10 sets of duplicate serial numbers ending in 3900 - 3999. There are no numbers from 3000 - 3899. Which means I have 10 of each number with the same serial numbers. I thought that was interesting, then I looked through the 9 cent box I bought and I have the same duplicates in it. I could understand if they were both the same denomination, but two different denominations? This seems rather interesting. Thanks for any insight.

Has anyone seen duplicate serial numbers on Ohio State Tax Stamps? ... If we only knew the actual process used to apply the serial numbers we might be able to explain how this occurred.

So you have boxes like mine... I don't but the person I bought these from likely does. This is a great example of Monte's warning that what might be rare today could become quite common tomorrow as vast quantities of OSTS are uncovered.

I just bought a mans entire collection. He was selling a few OSTS on Ebay and he had lots that several that I needed for about 50 cents each, so I bought all 3 lots he had listed. I asked if he had more and he sold me a few more. He then asked if I wanted to buy some boxes full, of course I asked how much. He sold be 2 5000 count boxes that had 3000 plus each and 3 full 1000 count boxes. I go them and that's where I found the duplicates of course, but he also included 100 random OSTS. I still haven't finished the stack yet, but out of the first 30 that I have done, I needed about 20 of them. Mostly Reserve Lithos, but they are filling in my spots. Well, last week he asked if I wanted the rest of his collection, which was another 22,000 stamps, including 12 full 1000 count boxes for $440, well I had the money so I bought them. I should get them this week and I guess I'll see what I bought. Do you have a list of what you have Steve? If so, send it to me so as I go through these, I can pull any you might need if you want me to. Or anyone else that collects these, I will gladly try to help out also.

I remember when you, Steve, posted recently that you got a stack of Ohio Stamps and had several serial number offsets in the stack, so I looked through several full boxes I got last week. In one of the 60 cent boxes, I found a serial number off set of about 3/8" inch I think, to the left, which makes it so you can't even read the number hardly. It was a stamp ending in #165. I searched the rest of the box and found no others. So, I looked in the next 60 cent box and what did I find, the stamp ending in #165 offset exactly like the first, and of course, the third box I have had the same number offset. I guess they had a serial number that just wasn't right when they printed that day. All 3 boxes are the same 4 letters at the beginning. Just some information that is good to know I guess. I am slowly, very slowly, still just trying to separate this collection into major groups right now,not in a hurry. I alreay have a bout 40 that I needed and I haven't even started on the new box yet.

Here is pictures of the first part of the Ohio Tax Stamp collection I bought. It is just full boxes, I already sorted the individual stamps into my collection before I took pictures. The 5000 count boxes each only have about 3600 stamps, but the small boxes are all full 1000 count boxes. I posted pictures of the second part of the collection in "Whatcha Been Stampin" today.

Steve, I think you are doing better than me out of my new collection, I have 17 Ohio Tax stamps that you need in your envelope and that was just from yesterday pretty much. I didn't add that many to my collection yesterday and mine were mostly just varieties, not new stamps I needed. I only got about 4 Ohio Tax stamps I was missing. We'll see what today brings.

I found this old thread, so I thought I would bring it back up. I haven't posted my Georgia Revenue Collection, so here it is. I haven't made my pages for these yet, so they are still on stock pages.
Cotton, Eggs, Milk, & Fruit
Sweet Potatoes: It looks to me like the sweet potatoes got a little wet, and the color transferred onto the stamps. I actually think it make them look better, and adds character to the stamps.
Oysters: The two stamps at the bottom are supposed to be the same, but I found one that actually has a different state seal on it, so I guess I should turn it into the guy who makes the catalog. It would make another stamp number I guess.

Here are some Georgia Beer Revenues. I really like the older, large size beer stamps, but like everything else, they made them smaller to save money of course.

I could use that pair from Georgia on the left side, if you don't collect those. I am sure I could come up with a trade. Have a great day. Mike.

I purchased a second state revenue lot. What caught my eye is that I haven't seen pages done with stencil in decades. Also the thematic story approach was endearing. I'm still waiting for the previous lot to arrive Edit - previous lot arrived today
