The Bahamas 1954 Queen Elizabeth set has always been my favourite British Commonwealth set. When I started collecting as a youngster, it was one of the first mint sets I acquired, but I could only afford up to the 1/ value. Many years alter, I took great delight in repurchasing the whole set. Here's an obvious philatelic cover but these look great in an album.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

nbstamper your post reminded me that I have this philatelic cover from March 29, 1956 featuring some higher values of the Coronation set. It is obviously a mess due to the tape and folds. It is not addressed but on the back one sees it was received in Toronto on March 30, 1956. This would suggest possibly a first or special flight of some sort. I have avoided the temptation to soak the stamps off in case some day I discover it has some significance.

VERY nice registered cover! It can be awkward to display large pieces so I understand the temptation to soak the stamps. An idea - I leave oversized covers like that to use as binder covers or frontispieces in my albums as some are too large to fit in a Vario sheet, but fit the cover insert or 8 1/2 by 11 sheet protectors.

The size does not matter to me. Size is so overated... . I just feel that the folds and old cello tape really take away from this cover. Add to that the lack of any address for the receiver or sender and the occasion. I did a quick Google hoping to find a flight or event to explain why it was created without any luck. There was no money invested as it was once again part of a large job lot bought years ago.

Hah! You’re right! I only looked at the stamps. No addresses certainly makes the cover less interesting and the tape is funky.

My Monday mail included the mint lightly hinged 1 pound George V which filled the final hole on this page. A none revenue used example of this stamp has alluded me so the mint it is.

Today's mail included this small group of Bahamas stamps. The 3 Queen Victoria issues will fill some holes. Although it has a low CV I especially like the SON cancel on the Scott 19 1 shilling. The 1971 MNH set is a bit newer than I usually collect but it went for the price of a cup of coffee so how could I resist.

My favourite new arrival today is this used Queen’s Staircase 5 pence first issued in 1903. Love the bright orange border. Such a clean S.O.N. postmark makes me suspect that it may have been from a philatelic cover. Used examples are rather rare.

Any "Royal Watchers" aboard? Queen Victoria's earrings on the Chalons, have always fascinated me, they certainly were not shy or discreet. They look heavy and cumbersome to me. Were they these, shown on the Chalon Portrait, I wonder? Facsimiles

These arrived today. The £ stamp is not pen cancelled but not sure if postal. Looks good. The next three are perf 14 and WMK 1. The last is not WMK'd 13 Perf and looks washed when held to light.

The £ strike of the part single ring is consistent with a Bahamas cancellation. The "Bridge" part postmark to the left, raises questions, I have never seen such a Pmk on a Bahamas postage stamp before. As it had been cancelled in presumably the Bahamas, it is curious why it has such a mark. "Interinsular Postage" (June 10th 1859 ) Inter Island mail inscription, for first stamps issued, since external mails were under control of London until May 1860 May 1860 "Interinsular Postage" removed from the design. The emblem on the right hand side, is unmistakebly a shell, of the genus "strombus" of Linnaeus. The likeness is not faithful, even worse in the shilling than in the penny. But one of the Helmet-shells, the cassides of modern conchologists, is evidently intended to be portrayed. These are largely exported from South America and the West Indies, especially the Bahamas, for the purpose to be cut up into cameos.
