Well, the building has changed very much since 1960. Now, there are 9 more towers and they're already working on the tallest one (devoted to Jesuschrist); it will be 172 meters high. In total, the church will have 16 towers, when finished, around 2033.
I live not too far from the temple and love to see it growing (not everyone here, does!). Perhaps, because my grandad worked as a kid on the building in Gaudi's years. It's, actually, part of my everyday life landscape!

White-nosed coati maxicard, from Costa Rica. Thank you, Terry Watson, my friend! I am a member of the MACSU Board of Directors ("at large"), and also its Assistant Editor. I edit the Journal before Terry (e)mails it out. "The white-nosed coati (Nasua narica),[2] also known as the coatimundi (/koʊˌɑːtɪˈmʌndi/),[1][3] is a species of coati and a member of the family Procyonidae (raccoons and their relatives). Local Spanish names for the species include antoon, gato solo, pizote, and tejón, depending upon the region.[4]". en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-nosed_coati

What a nice thing to find in today's mail: A maxicard that Linda made for Hokusai's classic woodblock print, The Great Wave off Kanagawa. It's postmarked on Oct 31, Hokusai's birthday. Beautiful! Linda also included a really nice postcard with one of her own photos, called "The Forgotten Robot Soldier." I love it, and I'm going to hang on to it with the idea of maybe making a maximum card with it, if the right stamp/postmark combination suggest themselves. So cool. Thanks so much, Linda!

swvl -- You didn't pay attention to the stamp and the cancel on the cover ... You're right! I saw that there was a nice cancel, but I hadn't looked closely til you pointed it out just now .... There's a 2013 stamp showing the Chinatown Gates in Montréal, along with a pictorial cancel from what I'm guessing is a nearby post office in Montréal's Quartier Chinois. Very cool and concordant! Thanks again Linda, the care you take with all things philatelic and artistic is much appreciated!

Yes, it's this cancel that shows the Gate of Montreal's Chinatown -- the same subject of depiction in the stamp! Actually, under perfect condition, in the cancel you can see the inscription on the top of the gate '唐人街'.

It's one of the very few spots where photography was allowed. The sculpture depicts the 'Robot Soldier' in Castle in the Sky -- which is my favourite of Hayao Miyazaki's work. Finding a concordant stamp / cancel would be very difficult, as Ghibli doesn't allow many of its characters being reproduced. The only Japanese stamp related to Castle in the Sky is the one that features the main poster of the movie in this set that I shared elsewhere. And the only cancel related to Ghibli is this one that commemorates the inauguration of Ghibli Park in Aichi prefecture. It pictures a house that appears in Whisper of the Heart though.

Well, with my less stringent approach to making maxicards, I would probably find enough concordance in pairing Linda's photo of the Studio Ghibli statue with a stamp/cancel that has anything to do with a robot, or ancient ruins, or... But it's a fair point!

dorincard -- Even though Japan Post allows personalised stamps, we are technically not allowed to take an image of the Robot Soldier directly from the movie to use on our stamps without the explicit permission from Studio Ghibli. A less controversial approach is to create the image of the Robot Soldier ourselves -- by drawing, painting, etc, preferably in a style that's different from the source material's. But this would count as a secondary-derived work based on an original copyrighted material, and technically we still need Ghibli's permission to create such a work. (Just to make it clear: a high school student would need Disney's permission to scribble a Micky Mouse on his textbook -- it's just that Disney wouldn't go out of the way to run after EVERYONE who did a sketch of their character for non-commercial or advertisement purpose.) I don't think Ghibli is very strict in managing the copyrighted claims (but Nintendo is -- be aware!), so long as our creations are kept for ourselves and never sold for commercial gain, Ghibli would probably not sue us. But the boring part is that we can't exhibit these creations officially ...

You are right. Ask Ghibli. Disney, Harley Davidson and others have hyperactive copyright lawyers, and the leading lawyers in that world are Ruth Less and Sue Happy. 😉

In Russia, there is a stamp in honor of the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus. It depicts a monument. On January 22, the monument "Birth of the New World" was opened in Puerto Rico How to make maxcard?

Simple: the traditional maximaphily wants you to fuhgeddaboutit. The landmark is in Puerto Rico, so the stamp should be from USA, and the postmark from "nearest post office to that landmark".
But my non-traditional maximaphily says (because I say so) that you can do the next best thing: a salute, an homage from a different locality, country or continent!
Your Russian stamp should get a courtesy cancel from anywhere in Russia, after you affix it on the picture side of the postcard.
Then, you can sell it to David Nye, an avid collector of any philatelic item Columbus-related.

The green stamp shows a different mammoth species: the woolly mammoth. What species is on the other stamp? Mammuthus (or Archidiskon) meridionalis is on the postcard. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mammoth

The sculptural composition "Mammoths" appeared in Khanty-Mansiysk in 2007. The architect was the People's Artist of Russia A. Kovalchuk. The creation of this monument was timed to coincide with the 425th anniversary of the capital of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug. The sculpture is located on the territory of the famous Archeopark. The location for the sculptural composition was chosen for a reason: when you look at this monument, you get the feeling that the herd has just come out of the forest and is approaching people. And Khanty-Mansiysk was also chosen not by chance, because many years ago real mammoths really lived here. Now we can say that the mammoths have returned to their homeland. The sculptural composition consists of 7 bronze monuments. The total weight of these monuments exceeds 70 tons. In 2009, the sculpture was replenished, and the number of mammoths became 11. All the monuments are installed in full size. The height of the tallest mammoth exceeds 8 meters, and the smallest mammoth in height is

Do they have long fur? Then they are woolly mammoths. I guess they are not, based on the tusks shape.

I think I’ll put aside the card with southern elephants for now. I’ll do it with mammoths from Khantymansiysk. But it’s not easy.

My giant panda maxicard, with my personalized postage stamp I designed at zazzle.com/dorinco In my opinion, the traditional maximaphily is A SUBSET, AN OPTION in the bigger world of non-traditional maximaphily. For example, a traditional maximaphily "guideline" ("rule") is that the postcard for the maxicard should have been "commercially available" BEFORE the first day of issue of the postage stamp (that you use to create your maxicard). If the panda postcard above was for sale AFTER the stamp, then the traditional maximaphily says "it's not a maxicard!". But my non-traditional maximaphily says (because I say so) that it's OK for the postcard to be created AFTER the creation of the postage stamp. Another aspect is the postmark. In this case, it is NOT place-concordant, if there is no (captive) giant panda in New York City. How about a taxidermied museum specimen? "You twalkin' to me? I don't know". [de Niro quote, ICYMI]. What's NYC got to do with giant pandas at the Zoo in Washington, D.C.? Nothing! No concordance of place with NYC. But my non-traditional maximaphily says that, in the absence of a place-concordance, the NEXT BEST THING is a SALUTE, an HOMAGE from a different locality. So the pictorial postmark from the World Philatelic Exposition New York City 2016, inscribed THE WORLD OF STAMPS DAY, is not OK for the traditional maximaphily, but it's OK for my non-traditional maximaphily.

Today I received Ukrainian maxcards with local postage stamps of the city of Yalta. There is a swallow 's nest on the card . Swallow's Nest" is a pseudo-Gothic castle located on a steep 40-meter cliff of Cape Ai-Todor in the village of Gaspra in the Yalta city district of Crimea. It took on its current appearance in 1912. It was rebuilt for a rich noble dynasty. After the revolution of 1917, in different years it housed warehouses, restaurants, and reading rooms. Today it is an architectural and exhibition complex, including several tiers of observation decks, a permanent exhibition about the history of the castle and exhibition areas. Every year it becomes the most visited tourist attraction in Crimea and a permanent venue for cultural, leisure and patriotic events. The Swallow's Nest has become the emblem of the Southern coast of Crimea.
