This is what future Stamp Collectors shall have to study. China Post 30th June 2015 Small Packet Air No Postal value evident. I draw your attention to the self adhesive die cut label. Look at the intricate die cut label separation device. Remarkable. Little moons and nibbles. I wonder if this is some anti forgery device.

I draw your attention to the self adhesive die cut label. Look at the intricate die cut label separation device. Remarkable. Little moons and nibbles. I wonder if this is some anti forgery device. The die cut reads "CHINA POST" vertically downwards. On your meter, if you look very carefully at the right side, it is easier to read because the "C" is complete and you should be able to make out most of the letters. If you look extra hard, you can also see it on the left side.

This stamp was selling for under $1 not that long ago - China has been an investment opportunity (not that most of us care) I hope to post an article on forgeries of these airmails "eventually"

They are listed in Scott standard worldwide catalog. The 4 vertical characters at left near bottom indicate for temporary use in northeast. These are Northeast Postal Service issues, listed in Scott as #1L150-1L153(1Jul1950). 2018 Scott footnotes the price for a set of reprints at $55, but doesn't say for unused, used, or CTO. Your 1st stamp appears unused, but the other 3 are clearly CTOs.

I also used Scott standard worldwide but i could not figure out if the #1L150-1L153 footnote belonged to this group(still a newbie when it comes to reading some Scott listings), thank you for confirming ID# .

Even the latest Scotts are out of date when it comes to popular China stamps Chinese "investors" now make up nearly 40% of the world stamp market and many are not stamp savvy, hence what you see being bid on doubtful stamps. These stamps are increasing exponentially in value A mint set of the First printing will easily fetch $1000-$1200 The reprint mints are not as desired and might get $50 on a good day Used sets maybe $10

These are my favourites sometimes known as the Candarins
The first issue of Chinese stamps were printed by the Shanghai Customs Statistical Department on unwatermarked paper with a perforation of 12 1/2. The values are in units of Tael Currency, 1, 3 and 5 Candarins. A Candarin being one hundredth of one Chinese ounce of silver. In the upper two corners were two Chinese characters meaning Great China and the word 'CHINA' in English in the upper rectangular panel. In the right vertical panel were three Chinese characters meaning post office, and in the left one were the Chinese characters showing the face value of the stamp. In the lower two corners were the Arabic figures 1, 3 or 5 with the English word 'CANDARIN' or 'CANDARINS' in the lower rectangular panel. With the different printings thare are many color variations. Forgeries are plentiful and as each stamp in the sheet varies, a plating is required to verify them. A little maybe boring information 1878(Aug) - FIRST CUSTOMS ISSUE - Narrow Margin. Thin white wove paper, no watermark; perforate 12 1/2, mostly clean cut, some are rough. Stamps printed 2 1/2-3 1/4 mm. apart. Motif dimension 22 1/2 x 25 1/2 mm. Sheet of 5 x 5.
They were reprinted 1882(Jun) - FIRST CUSTOMS ISSUE - Wide Margin. Thin paper for 1 and 3 Candarins and pelure paper for S Candarins. Perforated 12 1/2; no watermark. Stamps printed 4 1/2 mm. apart. Motif dimension 22 1/2 x 25 1/2 mm. Sheet of 5 x S for 1 ed. and 5 ed, but 3 x 5 for 3 ed.
1883(Apr) - FIRST CUSTOMS ISSUE - Narrow Margin. Thicker paper, more opaque. Clean cut perforate 12 1/2; no watermark. Stamps printed 2 1/2-3 1/4 mm. apart. Motif dimension 22 1/2 x 251/2 mm. Sheet of 4 x 5
1883 - FIRST CUSTOM ISSUE· ROUGH PERFORATE. Very thick paper. Rough perforate 12 1/2; no watermark. Motif dimension 22 1/2 x 25 1/2 mm. Stamps printed 3 1/4 mm. apart. Sheet of 4 x 5 An early Chinese mail cart

My No 2 set - very difficult to find and usually not in the greatest condition Here too forgeries exist but east to tell apart COMMEMORATIVE ISSUE OF EMPRESS DOWAGER November 17, 1894 was the 60th birthday of the Empress Dowager Ci Xi. At the suggestion of Sir Robert Hart, then the Commissioner of Customs, a set of commemorative stamps in 9 values was issued. Stamps of this issue were printed in Shanghai on watermarked white thin paper, and perforated 12. Perforation 11 3/4 and 11 1/2 are also found but rare.
There are three different printings of this issue: the first set was printed in 1894, the second in 1897, and the third, the Mollendorf set, also printed in 1897, was not an official issue. It was printed as gifts to officials on very thick paper, only 900 sets exist and they do command a significant value
As with any unofficial stamp REGARDLESS whether the original dies were used. these are illicit, not postally valid and no more than facsimilies at best or forgeries at worst
