Now here was a REAL surprise while digging through the piles of stuff. I came across a little pile of parcel post halves from Italy and some of its colonies - I have already posted finds from Rhodes and Eritrea, which were surprising enough, but Oltre Giuba? Wow, I'll have to start a new glassine for this stamp issuing entity, I haven't yet come across any in my random piles up to this point (that's not to say there isn't something lurking in the depths, but there's a lot of fishing to be done in the meantime to find them). Oltre Giuba had a short shelf life, existing only from 1924 to 1926. Originally British, stamps were issued when the land was ceded to Italy. It became part of Italian Somaliland and in 1936, that became a part of Italian East Africa. In WWII it fell under British military administration, then the Italians started running the show again with assistance from the UN after the war. In 1960, the Italian part merged with the British part (which had issued stamps under the name Somaliland Protectorate) to become the country of Somalia. Ryan

Scott E2 from 1926, the 2.5l Expres stamp: Apologies for the horrible centering. Most of the stamps from Oltre Giuba are overprints on stamps of Italy, but there is a neat, inexpensive little set with a map. I see I haven't uploaded a scan of mine to the cloud...I'll have to dig a bit.

I have been exposed as a fibber! I do have 1 stamp from Oltre Giuba, I have it in my database as "Jubaland" I sent "Agent ransack" to work, and he brought up this one, my only one. Thematic : Swords and knives on stamps.
