WOW! Nice piece to be sure!! Here's something I'm currently bidding on if your curious? That's right it's a Scott #2 on cover!! I doubt I'll win it but I'm on the high end of 4 figures right now!

I doubt I'll win it but I'm on the high end of 4 figures right now! Is that with or without a decimal point? Seriously, good luck to you -- I doubt I'll ever possess one of those either on or off cover. And congratulations to you Jack!!! The stamp is nicely tied on cover. Is there an accompanying letter of just the cover sheet?

Jack : What does the address read? Thanks. It's South Coventry, CT. maps.google.ca/maps?q=south+coventry+connecticutNote that the town is right next door to the Nathan Hale State Forest. Nathan Hale was a Revolutionary War hero who has been featured on a USA stamp in spite of the fact that there were never any portraits made of him in his lifetime. Just had to guess at how he looked, I suppose. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_HaleRyan

Thanks boys, the great big nasty worked OK, South Coventry layout looks a little like my town, suffers the same idiosyncracy, Jonathan Turnbull Highway, turns a bend and suddenly becomes Willimantic road. When driving home using my satnav, the lass that advises me with her sultry English voice, wants to take me there via the Cape, because of the same irritation. Know the Nathan Hale stamp well, always reminds me of Kevin Costner

I did a little digging into Richard H Rose and found this guy that seems to fit the bill records.ancestry.com/Richard_Hale_Rose_records.ashx?pid=131955343I noticed the H is for Hail. I looked back into the maternal side of the Family and it seems his grand father or Great Grand Farther was a brother of Nathan Hail en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Hale Who is a American Revolutionists that was Hanged. He was in turn a Great Grandson of John Hale One of the clergymen involved with the Salem witch trials. Off to find more.

Not yet, I should have it next week Tuesday or Wednesday . I thinking of starting a small cover collection. I like covers great history is often attached to the cover.
I also bought 13 cover albums last year that I like to put to use.

The letter is interesting, seems to be a letter asking about someone. I think the last line is Please destroy this letter after reading. I glad that didn't happen.

The letter seems to be a very sneaky affair. I am glad that it wasn't destroyed either, a better buy for you than we even thought.

Very nice clean cover, if I collected covers that would be a hard one to be without. I think collecting number 1's is one of the best choices a collector can make.

Hi Jack, Nice cover. When I saw it on the Apfelbaum sale I was sure it was a Nov 5th mailing (the 5 is centered beneath the month and the 1 looks more like extra ink catching the edge of the date slug). Now that I see the contents, its nice to see that I was right. Anyway, I maintain the 1847 issue census on the uspcs website. I'd like to add the letter contents to the cover description as well as the price realized. The cover was part of Apfelbaum sale 1128, lot 1836 (a group of about 140 covers) that the buyer apparently broke down and resold individually. I assume you bought it elsewhere. Please let me know where and I will add the information, with your permission. Also, let me know who to credit the information to in the census. Thanks. mark
