Given the recent Forum interest in Bolivia, I thought I would post my favorite Bolivian issue--the airmails of 1938. I think these are among the best examples of 1930s-style socialist/militaristic art. (With apologies--I need to spend 25 cents on a 1B to complete the set.)

Riddle me this one ladies and gentlemen...This is Scott no. C162 which is supposed to come in only two perforation flavors. The main Scott listing states that all of the airmail values of this stamp, referred to as the Eduardo Abaroa issue in the catalogue, are perforated 11. There is also, a minor variety of this stamp, the 100b value, listed as C162a. that is perf. 14. My stamp below, however, is definitely perf. 12. Does anyone know more?

To complicate matters further, Colnect lists the perforation as 11 1/2...

chrischross, my gut says there is a Bolivian specialized catalogue out there that has all of these variations noted and the Scott Catalogue knows nothing about them.

darkormex Was this issued by the pre-revolutionary government first? If Colnect is correct with the 1952-03-24 date of issue, than that predates the revolution by a couple of weeks. That might have something to do with all the perf variations...

It is unclear from the Scott Cat. There is both a regular postage set and an airmail postage set featuring the same design. All were issued in 1952. I know little of Bolivian history, however, a brief browse of the Bolivia Wikipedia page states that there was a revolution in 1952 so I wonder if you may be heading in the right direction with your suggestion. Different governments, different prints, re-prints, different papers, different perfs, etc...

But yes, if you translate the Spanish, you can get a sense of the national tension.

This prompted me to check Michel. You just never know where they're going to do a deep dive and where they leave well enough alone. Well, in this case, they split the difference: perf 11½. (And what chrischross said Colnect said.) Any chance that would work with your perf gauge? (Depending on which one you use, and how it handles gradations.)
