Linn's Stamp News announces that the 2018 Scott catalog will be issued in 12 volumes. Essentially, existing volumes will be split into a part A and B. More at Lynn's Stamp News. Good for the worldwide collector , not so good for the regional collector .

Last year I learned from Admin Steve ( tomiseksj) that Amos Publishing sells off the previous year's catalogues for half price. There had already been rumblings that there would be major changes (at the time, they were talking about the potential for 10 volumes in 2017) so I picked up a full set including the US Specialized. I also subscribe to Linn's Stamp Monthly, and that gives me updates on all the new issues (plus a discount on all those year-old catalogues). So, it will probably be a while before I buy another full set of Scott catalogues - if people are interested in having a full set, you should keep your eyes open for discounted catalogues. Buy the subscription to Linn's and the membership in the Amos Advantage program that comes with that will give you a further discount on the catalogues that pays for 3 or 4 years of the subscription to Linn's. Amos is not the only one doing discount sales. Also Michel does them almost monthly, and there are some pretty good offers (discounts range from -30% up to -60% of full price for catalogs that are one or two editions behind). Definitely no need to buy catalogs at full price -k-

Hi
In the past I have written Scott (Amos Publishing) about the catalogs. I suggested they publish them in "Regional" volumes similar to other world wide catalogs. They said it was impractical since there are so many World Wide Collectors that will buy a full set. To this day the statement makes no sense.
When I first wrote they were not fully computerized so I gave the benefit of a doubt. Now that they are computerized it is highly practical. Anyone who needs a full set, World Wide collector, dealer, etc.., will still buy the full set no matter in what format.
The 12 volume question becomes "What is the price per volume?" My friend says that people bought catalog volumes in the past but Scott priced themselves out of the market. He says that he sells very few catalogs.

Scott/Amos is fortunate to have a somewhat captive audience in North America but they are completely out of phase with what is going on in the rest of the world or they simply do not have the technical resources. Michel who only a few years ago had a dozen or so catalogs now publishes; - 200+ country specialized catalogs that they even personalize for you - 100+ online eBooks at 1/2 the catalog cost. - All the main catalogs on USB sticks and much more! Michel CatalogsIf you view in Chrome you can translate easily Luckily for Scott, they only publish selected catalogs in English.

Hi falschung A few years ago Michel stated that they will print a "specialized" catalog on request. The catalog would contain only those countries that were requested. The catalog would have a Michel cover, etc.. Since I collect only 3 countries I checked with Michel. The price of a catalog with only the three countries I collect was more than the price of one Scott catalog!!
When I started collecting Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela I was purchasing those Scott catalog sections from an upstate New York dealer. Unfortunately that dealer passed away and I did without for years. In the past few years there is another dealer offering Scott catalog sections at a very reasonable price.
