I sometimes try to get creative by alternating number of stamps per row. But did many just on a grid.

Steiner seems to like the upside down pyramid method

as opposed to my preference

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I thought I was done with the Queen Victoria 60th Jubilee set other than looking out for covers. But then I guess as collectors we are never quite done. I was never totally happy with my 1.00 mint because it was heavily hinged with some some waves to the paper as a result of that. My newly acquired never hinged example is on the left and came with a 2019 Greene certification. I will offer the hinged one for sale probably on eBay. They still realize a good price. I know that mint no glue are frowned upon by many as not really being mint anymore. I think this stamp would actually be a better looking stamp with the hinge soaked off and then dried and pressed. I would be interested in thoughts.

Both are beautiful stamps hdm1950 , thanks for the showing.
I have had heavily-hinged mint stamps in the past as well, notably issues from Canada's Imperial Penny Postage and have been able to successfully remove the hinge using the method the tomiseksj describes in his posting that can be found here. From my own experience, I found the gentle rubbing on the hinge itself and the friction/heat did cause the bonds to break between the two surfaces and was pleased with the final results with the old hinge removed.
As with any paper restoration project though, be patient and go slow; if in doubt, stop...
Have fun and happy collecting!

Good day Vince stanley64 . Thanks for your suggestion. I was aware of the rubbing technique and had cautiously tried it but with no success. It is the warping that I dislike more than the hinge remnant. The hinge is the cause. I suspect it has shrunk over time and pulled at the paper. Scans do not show the warping and in a mount it is not that pronounced but when out and held with tongs it is very obvious.

Thanks for your post, Hugh ( hdm1950 ) If the dry-rubbing technique doesn't work, you could also try using a bit of Stamp-Lift fluid on the hinge. I have used that with good success, followed by a press-flattening with the gum side of the stamp against some waxed paper to prevent sticking. I just use a small paint brush to put on the Stamp-Lift fluid a little bit at a time, until I can see the hinge start to wrinkle a little. Then I carefully peel off the hinge remnant using my tongs but being careful not to disturb the gum any more than necessary. The press flattening usually gets rid of the warping, too. If you want to try this and have any questions, please feel free to PM me.

Good stuff Hugh hdm1950 ! It was worth a try and given the additional input by Chris ( Beryllium Guy ), it might be worth a second attempt. Still, either way, it is a nice looking stamp and every effort to preserve what gum is there, I think, is worth a crack... Have fun and happy collecting!

I am back with an update on the heavily hinged 1.00 60th Jubilee stamp. The news is not good. I tried the tong rubbing on a couple Hong Kong Edward VII mint with hinge remnants first that had arrived recently and it worked out fine. I then proceeded to the Queen Victoria again and discovered why the hinging was so heavy. I acquired this stamp in an old album and had nothing serious invested in it. It appears a previous owner had added a piece of a hinge to hold flapping paper on the back. The repair hinge came off easy after a few minutes more of rubbing with the tongs and exposed what it was holding in place. In this case my iPhone better captured the actual condition than scanning does. I will not attempt to remove the remaining hinge remnants for fear of losing some of the actual stamp paper and creating a severe thin. It is still a great space filler so I will list it on eBay rather than use it for postage .

I mentioned before that once I completed this set that I was through but once again I find myself doing some upgrades. My 1/2 cent and 10 cent were mint but hinged so this weeks mail brought me mint never hinged examples. I would have preferred very fine never hinged but I think??? I can live with these. A MNH 6 cent is on my wish list now. First photo are the 2 mint never hinged new arrivals. These are the mint hinged ones that are now duplicates. The .10 has very nice centering. If a forum member was interested in both or either at well below CV message me. I hope this is allowed, if not a moderator can let me know. NOTE : the 1/2 cent has been sold to a TSF member. Here are the back of the hinged examples. The .10 has some glue disturbed as well.

I found this rather worn three cent Jubilee among a collection today. It has a wonderful AU 17 97 BERLIN ONT. cancel so I have decided to keep it. Not being originally from Ontario I was not aware that Kitchener, Ontario was named Berlin until it was changed by referendum in 1916. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlin_to_Kitchener_name_change

Thanks to hdm1950 (Hugh) for offering his dups. I scanned the stamp and put it in a mount in my BB Part I, it is next to a tatty neighbor at the moment but that will be upgraded soon. Pics below:

It seems I will never be done with the Jubilees. Once I had finally added all the dollar values I took a closer look at my lower denominations that I had found in old collections over the years. I discovered that although they showed well several had condition issues and most were hinged. Another arrival this week were these fine to very fine mint never hinged one and six cent copies to upgrade my set.

hello all, I have been offered this stamp. I am curious on opinions on the colouring. I know scans can be misleading. I will not hold anyone to their thoughts, but does this stamp look washed to any of you?

I will not hold anyone to their thoughts, but does this stamp look washed to any of you? The colour looks fine to me with a decent Hamilton roller cancel. I am seeing some yellow streaks that may be a scanning issue and hopefully not a revenue cancel that someone tried to erase.

I will not hold anyone to their thoughts, but does this stamp look washed to any of you? It looks more sulphuretted than washed. I would want a H2O2 bath prior to making a decision. Also, I see some violet toning, most evident in the background of the young queen. I don't know if that effect is from the scan or photo or ? Also I see the yellow streaking mentioned earlier. I compared with fresh mint examples found online and this item looks rather glum. Just my opinion.

I am seeing some yellow streaks that may be a scanning issue and hopefully not a revenue cancel that someone tried to erase. I'm fairly certain that the purple & yellow streaks are moiré artifacts from scanning. The "V" is unaffected (no engraving lines in the middle of the V, so nothing to set up a moiré pattern when scanning.) Ryan
