Rene - as far as I know Yvert and Maury are using the same major numbers, so that part of your query is solving itself With regards to giving the Scott numbers for French stamps....well I don't necessarily agree that Scott is the golden standard for European stamps? If Scott numbers should be included, I would say, to be fair, so should Michel and Stanley Gibbons...? For the majority of SCOTT users, even the Classic Scott (I have a 2019 copy e-) you will find many numbers which correspond to varieties shown in Maury. I agree that you cannot do a decent inventory with Scott However, the software I am using (and modifying as I wish) is based mostly on Scott #s - When the Semeuse camée are done, I will send you the pages (custom) with Sc # and Maury #. Plus there are 2 ways of going about it 1) Using your system of dates of issue of a particular kind 2) Using Scott numbers that follow the stamp value 1c-2c-etc. For a collector of WW stamps, as my friend Chris Beryllium Guy once posted......it all depends how far you want to go. The last thing I would do is have Scott/Maury/Yvert T/Michel etc opened in front of me and trying to do a decent inventory René

I'll just follow along while you two work out the details! You are too funny, Stan . I have chosen my method for FRANCE stamps but I do not wish putting 300 hours and more in it - Catalogs are Catalogs....some better .......one philatelist's "choice" René

Will be nice to see the pages when you're done Rene. Good you have a system that's working for you combining Scott/Maury. I do think you misunderstood what I was trying to get at in my previous post, no worries. Personally I'll stick with Maury numbers only, keeping it simple when possible.

I collect oddities and recently came across this Forgery of the 1Fr Ceres . I show it with a genuine 1st issue 20c Black for comparison . Typically a face is the most tricky thing to get right in a forgery ( and the thing that we find easiest to recognise and spot minor differences) which is why many countries followed Britain's lead with a portrait on the first stamps. The Eyes and the smile not 100% !

Recently acquired, full original gum, copies of the 1.50 franc, dark blue stamp commemorating the maiden voyage of the steamship "Normandie" (Scott 300; April 1935) and the 75 centimes, blue green Benjamin Delessert stamp commemorating the opening of the International Savings Bank Congress (Scott 301; May 20, 1935). Each has replaced its used counterpart in my album.

arrived today- despite what the prices on the page indicate, it was rather modest in cost and fills a couple of spots as well as upgrades a couple of examples! The stamps on this pages are not well placed (if you look closely) ...but it filled spaces I suppose

This represents (by scan) my 3/4 page of Semeuse camée series (Sower without ground under feet) Sc #171-180 with Maury cat sub-classifications. When you see a Scott # with _ this means Scott does not recognize this variety. René p.s. click on image for better view

I now have (almost) all Sower (no ground) into stock pages , and I have quite a few precancels, but I haven't found any mention of these directly in the several references I have 9or else I'm looking in the wrong place)
Are they treated/categorized the same as other color varieties? and I suppose this also applies to other French precancels as well...?

René ( renden ), your Semeuse stamps are really nice, but I hope you don’t mind if I suggest that you move the post to a different thread, as this one is for the Cérès issue. [ADMIN NOTE: The posts being referred to have been merged into this thread.]

Thanks Chris - Semeuse are part of France and not Ceres and I understand your logic !!! Will see if it is worth a thread as I have finished my task reviewing Semeuse for Stan stainlessb

René ( renden), congratulations on completing your Semeuse Camée set. I especially like your custom pages and the high-value additions. The 2-franc examples are all VF or better from what I can see. My observation on all of the Semeuse issues is that the margins are so tight, it can be very hard to find well-centered copies. I also look for non-obtrusive cancellations on the ones for my collection set. If I get one with an interesting postmark, I keep that separate or send it to our friend Jon ( blaamand). I am not 100% sure which ones I am missing, but probably some of those higher denomination ones like you were. I hope that I will find copies as nice as yours when I do get these completely organized. Anyway, thanks for the nice posts and congratulations on completing your set! Best Regards, Chris
