One of the topic I collect is cartoon and comic book characters on stamps. Everything from Superheros, classic comic strip characters, TV and movie characters, and even Disney. I'll start the showcase off with my first acquisition in this topic that remains one of my favorites. Comic Book Superheros issued by Canada on October 2, 1995. Unitrade #1579-1583, this is 1583b the booklet pane.

Nice pic, Westy!
I don't know comic book characters that well (other than as a kid growing up in the US in the 1960s), but I like those Canadian characters: Captain Canuck, Johnny Canuck, and my favorite name thus far: Fleur de Lys!

TRW, Let me add my only acquisition on this topic. Scott 3000, issued October 1, 1995, was designed by Carl Herman and printed by Stamp Venturers using photogravure. These tagged, perf 10.1 stamps were printed in sheets of 120 in six panes of 20. Inscriptions on the back of each stamp describe the comic strip.

That's a great sheet of classics! I like the background info printed on the backs of the stamps too. Thanks for sharing!

A bunch of stamps featuring the Smurfs from Belgium; And some Garfield from France; Not sure if these sets are complete. I only have the 2000 edition of the Scott Catalogue, so it doesn't contain these stamps. If you know of any stamps from either set that I am missing please post pics and info so I know what I am looking for.

My favorite comics were EC. We'll probably not be seeing anything from the Vault of Horror or Tales From the Crypt on stamps.

As just a little side-line topical, I seem to have accumulated some of the Peanuts issues. Although I was able to pick up the earlier issues, I took my eye off the ball for several years (with stamps in general), and missed some of the later issues as they came out. Here is what I believe to be the list of the stamps that have been issued for Peanuts. But I'm looking for additional input and any corrections. Portugal | 6 Oct 2000

From what I can tell, there have also been two -- what you would call them? -- semi-official issues, using personalized stamps, I think, but available for sale through the post office. - Australia, 2005?
- Hong Kong, 2005?
- Japan, 2006? (this is different from the official postage stamps issued in 2010)
Does anybody know anything about either the personalized stamps or any other issues? -- Dave (I'll post images soon of what I have already.)

This is one of those personalized "official" issues that I was trying to find out more about! Thanks for posting it! If you happen to have a link to any for sale at a lower-than-extortion price, please let me know. Or if any of you locals see this available at stamp shows, please let me know. (Perhaps a private message is best for any of this.) Thumbs up! -- Dave

I've phoned mys special contact in West Aust, he is out to lunch on business. I'll let you know directly. This is gonna cost you I have found a sheet local $15, not sure if it sold as yet, cross your fingers. I've got one $20, I have to drive 500 Kms to get it, which is OK, I'll probably go to the big smoke next week sometime. Do you want it?

Rod: I'll keep my fingers crossed! Local means you've found it locally, or it's in AUS $? (or both?)
Let me post a couple of other related elusive items (but non-Australian), in case your same sources can supply.
Be right back.

Rod: Here's something similar that Hong Kong did: (Sorry it's not a larger size.) And Japan: These are the P-stamps, I believe from 2006. They're not the regular postal issue of 2010. Feel free to email me off-board. My email address is in my profile, or barely disguised here as: dave ^dot^ sgvca ^at^ gmail ^dot^ com Thanks! -- Dave

Dave, sourced it locally in Perth, one sheet had been offered, then withdrawn without sale, and another ($20) offered elsewhere, owner said he would hold for me, (I think both these sheets are owned by the same fellow, he advertised in different places, I am assuming) Please let me know if you want this sheet $20 australian + postage to US. Then I can advise him. Unfortunately he is low key, no paypal, I have to pick up in the City.

Now, on to images ... If I'm correct, I believe Portugal was the first country to issue Peanuts stamps, Oct 6, 2000 -- a set of 6 stamps, plus a souvenir sheet showing the same set of 6. I didn't scan the individual stamps when I had them out (there's selvedge that's odd-looking, but I didn't want to remove, so it would take some photoshopping to take it out of the images), but here's the souvenir sheet: I especially appreciate the localized design on the mailbox.

Seeing Snoopy throwing the mail on your fourth card reminds me of nothing so much as the 1921 Poznan Aero-Targ airmail, with the plane shedding mail. Remind me again, how this instills confidence in the mail system? (Borrowed a scan rather than scanning mine.)

On to what I believe is the second Peanuts postal issue, this time from the US. (Although I have this stamp and the full sheet, they're not in the same place as the scanner and computer, so I've borrowed these images from someone else.) Snoopy - US, Scott #3507, issued May 17, 2001 Just like with Portugal, Snoopy is the only one of the Peanuts gang who made it onto the stamp.
However, unlike Portugal, Charlie Brown, Lucy and Linus made it into the top selvage! (Must've gotten a better agent since the Portugal gig.)
Here is an uncacheted FDC that happened to be hanging out near the scanner, issued in Santa Rosa, CA: Happily, there is no scattering of or interfering with the mails with this issue!

Here is an uncacheted FDC that happened to be hanging out near the scanner, issued in Santa Rosa, CA:
My true Santa Rosa story - once upon a time in the pre-internet days, I was in California when my truck broke down (long story short, cracked injector pre-heat tubes that allowed antifreeze into the fuel, the thing drove like a bucking bronco). I limped to Sacramento and found a shop to work on it there while I spent three days in a motel. After a little bit of cabin fever, I rented a car and off we went to San Francisco. After a nice lunch and a bit of browsing, I decided we'd try Santa Rosa. I had remembered an article in the Reader's Digest about Charles M. Schulz, and I was pretty sure it had mentioned a Peanuts museum in Santa Rosa. Good thing it wasn't actually Santa Clara, or Santa Monica, or Santa Whattheheckistan. Drove up to Santa Rosa, found a phone booth at a gas station and couldn't find any mention in the phone book about a Peanuts museum, but there was a listing for Snoopy's Cards & Gifts or some such place. The gas station had a map on the wall, so a couple of mental notes later, off we went. Drove back and forth on the road for a bit but couldn't see anything, but I did see a skating rink. Took a good guess knowing Snoopy's fondness for Minnesota pond hockey, and there behind a wall of trees was the Snoopy museum! I bought a Joe Cool sweatshirt and wore it until it was in shreds. ha ha Ryan

Welcome to 2013 Dave. Cost due to large format envelope I should imagine. Fold it in an A4 and it would be around $4
