Scott English, APS Executive Director, will be at Napex ’17 June 9-11, 2017. Scott will have a Town Hall Meeting on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 11 AM, in the Hilton Mclean Tysons Corner hotel's Amphitheater with updates on what APS is doing in the hobby and planning for the future. APS Ambassadors and Chapter representatives are encouraged to attend to learn about new APS initiatives, programs and other news to take back to your chapter meetings. If anyone from your Chapter is attending the show, let them know they are welcome to come, participate and bring questions. Additionally, recently-joined TSF member Tom Horn ( 18horns ) will be moderating an APS Ambassador Forum, also on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 3 PM, in the hotel's San Francisco Room, where APS Ambassadors and interested Chapter members sit and talk about club challenges, solutions, ideas and feedback on where APS can help for local club activities and organization. I am going to make every effort to attend both sessions on Friday and would enjoy meeting any TSF members who are planning on attending the show. If you think you will attend the show on Friday, send me a PM so we can arrange to meet. This is our Chapter's opportunity to voice concerns and ask questions. If any of you have comments, questions or concerns that you'd like conveyed to the APS leadership, either post them on this thread, send them directly to me, or attend one or both of these sessions and voice them yourself. You do not need to be an i ndividual APS member in order to attend, although it would be good for our hobby if you were.

Thanks for this post, Steve. The events sound really good--I wish I could be there. Unfortunately, cross-country travel will not be possible for me at that time, due to some personal commitments.
I wish you successful and productive meetings, and that you may find yourself a couple of new treasures at the bourse!

"on where APS can help for local club activities and organization."
I wonder if the same advice applies to online clubs and forums.

...I wonder if the same advice applies to online clubs and forums. Some of the support that APS can provide is applicable to both online as well as "brick and mortar" clubs but there are some areas that will only be applicable to the Chapters that have a physical meeting space. I'll have a better sense of what is in the realm of the possible after having attended both of these sessions. As best I can determine, we are one of only four online Chapters -- feel free to check them out to see how they compare: eBay Users' Stamp Club Chapter 1522)N.S. Savannah Chapter 109, USCS (Chapter 1598)Virtual Stamp Club (Chapter 1461)Stamporama is an Affiliate, rather than a Chapter. I recall postings on Stamp Community Family that indicated it had previously had an association with APS but I don't know if it was an Affiliate or a Chapter and whether or not it has a current relationship.

A lot has been said about supporting the physical clubs but online clubs "meet" 24 hrs day at everyone's convenience. Some sites have for sale sections, auction sections, chat boxes, access to a worldwide list of experts. You can be a lurker without being called out or have your chance at the microphone for any topic. They are likely the first destination when someone inherits a collection and wants to know how to sell it. If a new to stamps and go to the APS web site, this information is buried in menus, It more like going to a utility to pay a bill rather than really learn.
I still think there is too much looking in the past and not looking to the future.
