Received a nice batch of US revenues from Smauggie the other day, thanks to his generous giveaway.
Sorting through I found these two with a curious overprint - F.D. - on some 1917 documentary stamps.
Thought it might be some company's initials, but then, stumbled onto this thread on our sister (brother?) site, SCF.

Turns out they are provisional future delivery stamps.
I'll let the masters over there explain. They know way more than I do!
