Recently acquired stampless folded letter posted at Lyndon Vt. in 1846 from Fuller & Co. to Washburn and Nichols of Boston. An order for a bale of batting and some buttons, and some other stuff. I can barely read this one. Sadly, no postmark. 5ยข postal rate for under 300 miles and contents. See if you can make heads or tails of it. Edit- I've been informed on 'that other site' that this the 'Lyndon Vt. Nov. 30' in the upper left corner of the front is the post mark. It's a 'manuscript cancel'. Who knew?

The Lyndon, VT manuscript town mark has been seen in use from 1814 through the 1850s. The 5th edition (1997) of the ASCC valued covers with a Lyndon manuscript town mark at $15.00.
