I have almost come to a dead end trying to add to some of my albums due to the high prices of Cinderellas. Frankly, it has just got silly. So I have been looking through some of my stuff lying around or tucked away in albums I rarely look into, and I have found a small army of Revenues. Many may not be revenues, loads I know are but know nothing about and some I do have information for. So this lighthearted thread is for you, and me, to show those odd revenue stamps you may have lying around or ones you know nothing about. I'll start off with one of those........... These look nice and I know they are from Buenos Aires but what are they for ? Are they simply General revenues of the City Municipality ?

I like the design of these stamps very much. Although they are from 1960 and depict QEII, these have a very classic design look about them, and in my mind's eye, I could easily imagine them with a portrait of Queen Victoria instead. Anyway, they are just really nice stamps!

Postage/revenue hybrid? I presume this is a postage stamp used as a revenue stamp. Do people collect these as a specialty?

Due to the limitations of the Scott Catalogues, which do not include stamps that were used exclusively for revenue purposes, I never realized that the Isle of Man had revenue issues going back that far. The postal issues began around 1958, but I never suspected that there would have been revenue issues long before that. Well, learning something new every day is one of the things I love about TSF, so thanks!!

1893 Egypt Salt Department Revenues. Perf 14. The central portion showing the Sphinx and the Pyramid of Cheops in Giza. No info on this yet but possibly the work of De La Rue who printed the same central design on Egypt Postage stamps at around the same time.

Jaipur Government Court Fee Revenues. The Central Oval frame shows the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II. These are very large, about the size of small Miniature sheet !!

India Queen Victoria Revenue StampsAll right, well call me shallow for once again posting on a trending topic about which I know almost nothing, but there you have it (it's Nova Scotia all over again!). After seeing the nice Isle of Man QEII and QV revenues posted by Londonbus1 earlier in this thread, I was lamenting that I had no classic revenues in my collection. But then it hit me that when going through my stamps of India some weeks ago, I had found a couple of revenue stamps, so here they are. If anyone like LB1 or Anping or theamateurphilatelist or tomiseksj can help me to identify these with catalogue numbers and values, that would be appreciated, as these are not listed in my Scott books. For QV lovers, these are very nice stamps, as they resemble the high-denomination GB stamps which are much higher in catalogue value and therefore, much harder to come by.

No info on the salt revenues?
I'd bet 500M that you were the salty dog who switched me on to these 10 years ago? I can't say I've obsessed over them, but...I went a little crazy with SON cancels. I'm still missing some known cancels.
eta: By the way, my notes say DLR, too.

Forbin's 1915 tax stamps catalog is a helpful resource for identifying these types of issues. It is available for download here.

Postage/revenue hybrid? I presume this is a postage stamp used as a revenue stamp. Do people collect these as a specialty? I would imagine these are collectible, as there are collectors of passport related ephemera. The Gold Coast only used two types of revenue stamps and they were for court fees; overprinted JUDICIAL. Standard postage stamps were used for all other tax surcharges, so these may well be collected as 'pseudo' revenues.

Great Britain Contract Note Revenues These were used on signed documents for the purchase of shares or securities. The same (DLR Key Type) design as was used for KEVII, KGVI and QEII Revenues. Overprint on this value is in Blue. Perf 15x14 6d value only. 12 values in series. Stated to have been issued in 1921, almost 10 years AFTER GeorgeV became King !! (This was the first Contract Note issue for KGV) Whilst I did find a few J.D.C. & Co., I have not yet found an answer to this one !!!

I recently received an envelope of world wide revenues and am enjoying just looking at them while totally clueless about their use. Two of them are contract notes, so now I known something about them.

Looks like an 1880 Cyan value about $8-10 Right an ultramarine $12-!5 There are some 30-35 varieties - used for court fees earlier ones have the full Southampton name printed The George V Contract Notes shown earlier are more common and usually in the $3-5 range

Very nice Southampton Revenues, thanks to both for showing them. I have just been reading Bombadil's nice piece on the Hedjaz Railway and while the following item is not connected to that line, it is from the same era and area. It seemed the obvious choice for tonight's Revenue Portion !!! (In truth, I have often daydreamed of living in this area at that time, travelling on Railways and Camels and ............) Get a grip Bus !! The Block of Palestine Court Revenues (below) were issued in 1919 or 1920 during the British Administration (1918-1948). Many types/Varieties of this design exist . Perf 11. Can you spot the varieties on the top left stamp ?

LONDON MAYOR'S COURT . As the title suggests, these were used in the Mayor's Court of London for payment of fees and fines. Printed in recess by Perkins Bacon. Rough perfs. The 4d & 6d values were surcharged in words. Most often Perfin cancelled 'MC', elongated. This first issue is from 1883.
