While the Scott Specialized Catalogue of United States Stamps and Covers is an invaluable resource for the U.S. collector, there are times when some additional information is needed to help with the identification of classic U.S. stamps. Here are several online resources that I have come to rely upon. www.1847USA.com www.theswedishtiger.com www.uspcs.org pfsearch.orgI'll add to this listing as new sites are discovered and encourage members that collect U.S. to share any useful online resources that they have come across.

Thanks, Jack.
I haven't used the Swedish Tiger that often -- my "go to" site has been 1847USA.com.
I also frequent the Philatelic Foundation database to see certified examples of stamps in question (a picture really is worth a thousand words!).
I'm sure that there are other good resources available and I'm hopeful that, as new members come on board, they will add them to the list.

Threads like this, with info that can be used "forever", should be sticky, so they don't just get pushed down the page to never be seen again.

More sites - Siegle Auction Search Searchable site, has lots of high quality scans that are easily downloadable, and links to Stamp Market Quarterly if you are interested in prices. Philatelic Foundation Another searchable site that contains variable quality scans of virtually every US Stamp Arago - Smithsonian Institute This is our National Stamp Collection housed in the Smithsonian Institute and contains rarities beyond imagination! The site is kinda a pain to navigate and the images are locked against downloading or copying.

Welcome Bladeng Nice to see US specialty collectors Hope to see more of your posts. A word of caution for anyone using stamps from some of the sites mentioned. Many of these sites embed copyrights in their material (EXIF tags) that follows most attempts at downloading, copying, formatting & pasting. I don't know if they would enforce this but..... Unless you know how, these are not easily removed.

Impressive resource. David Saks must have spent weeks at the platen scanning all that; amazing work. Thanks for sharing.

The problem that often confronts me is when I need to identify a stamp(s) for sale online. Most often the only information given is the Country and a visual image.
I'm a frequent user of Microsoft's "Snipping Tool" which is free with Windows 10+. I sped up the use of the tool by programing my "PRTSC" (Print Screen) key to open it. Now whenever I need to identify a stamp online I copy it's image to my "Clipboard" using the "Snipping Tool". Then I open Google "Image Search" in chrome and "paste" it. The search most often comes back with the identification data that I need.
