dorincard Hey, that's the Euro way of calling those! I wondered too, but look in any Michel catalogue.

Indeed, I'm using "Block" in the German and French usage. Souvenir Sheet is the US name for such things. I'll try to be more mindful of my vocabulary in the future

On a second thought, "block" is a good synonym, if we specify "block of 4", etc. for other situations. Block can mean 1 stamp with selvage around it. Especially since the sheet terms from USA are improper, and the clarity cannot be "salvaged". "selvage (US English) or selvedge (British English)".

I've never seen the American spelling of that before. I always assumed it would be selvedge there too.

Anglophones, and all the other speakers of non-phonetic languages are stuck with extra letters, for now. Who needs all the extra letters!

Is there a general "arrangement" between stamp issuers and the World Wildlife Fund? Do the governments or post offices pay the WWF to use the logo? Or does the WWF pay the governments or post offices for the publicity? Or is it a less formal agreement where no money changes hands but WWF gets some publicity and the stamp issuers can collect some proceeds from topical stamp collectors like us?

I think that Groth A.G. is printing in Switzerland (almost) all the stamps, FDCs and maxicards. Especially those with the pressed/embossed WWF giant panda logo postmark. Others have local postmarks. WWF gets a $hare, and so do the national postal administrations of countries and dependencies, that only have to say "Oh, OK!", and Groth does the rest.
