The panes were 2x2, with 5 panes per booklet. I found these shots on a current eBay France listing. On a different eBay listing, I found a scan of the back of the stamp. The stamps were for the funding of a monument dedicated to Joffre. As Joffre was a noted WWI hero in France, I can't say for sure if this monument was the one built from the proceeds of the fund drive - there are other statues in France as well. But this is located in Paris, and the booklet was from the "National Committee", so it makes logical sense. The sculptor was Maxime Real del Sarte, with a date of 1939 for its dedication. And due to stringent union code requirements, all mentions of equestrian statues require the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. Ryan

Excellent! Maestro. Puts that to rest somewhat. Loved the Bonzo Dog Doo-dah band, surprised never heard of them, very Beatle-esque, right down my alley. Checked wiki, and yes, Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney were in the lineup on occaisions. Your post rates as 5 golden tweezers.

Picked up the blue one on the left today. What a great place this is to discover info about your finds. And with musical accompaniment by the Bonzos (one of my faves). To add to Rods Bonzo wiki, drummer Legs 'Larry' Smith also appeared on George Harrison's Extra Texture album where Mr Harrysong dedicated a song to him - 'His Name is Legs'
