GOMC Image Host seems to have disappeared today and its web page has been replaced by a web-host. I will try to contact Hans Probsting who owned GOMC forum and the connected image host. Until I get an answer or the problem resolves itself many of my images will not be showing on TSF. Imageshack, photobucket, and there have been others used in the past that have vanished)......nightmare

That is exactly the reason why I acquired an image host for our forum.

Thanks Steve, - its a wise choice and great help. I have now started to use the forums image host, although much material I had scanned over the years was already on GOMC On a rainy day I will gradually replace images.

Perhaps you can still login to the image portion of the site and get the images? web.archive.org/web/20140804215900/http://thegomc.com/DPInew/login.phpFree image sites going down are inevitable. As they close people move to the left over free ones. They get a bump in traffic, the hosting company wants more revenue for increased bandwidth and the FREE disappears. All thanks to a world obsessed with "image sharing and selfies"

While imgbb, the host associated with the Simple Image Upload plugin (i.e., the "Add image to post" button) is still free, it may eventually adopt a fee for service business model. On my "to do list" is determining if there is a plugin that will work with the TSF Image Host.

No reply from Hans who took over GOMC from Tony Evans (deceased). I have started to replace images already. One of the older GOMC members will have lost over 5000 images. Sad.

Reply on Hans Proebstings FB page from David Sheridan "I'm trying to get the site back up, as Hans is inactive at the moment. It seems that the hosting has expired".
IMO Its probably pointless as the GOMC is now extinct. And the connected GOMC Image Host would now be classed as unreliable.

A couple of days ago I looked into the domain reseller and host. Two phonecalls and a couple of emails and it turns out, the domain is listed as paid for until 2019.
Hans is listed as the owner. Heart (domain host) would not say anything to me about the problem because I was not the owner nor were they considerate of the loss of images. They did say they would contact Hans and that was all they would do.
The reseller of the domain name confirmed that the sever was in the name on Jonn xxxxx who had pressed privacy button.
If Hans is able to contact the domain host there should have been a backup made, there was a big problem for them a couple of years back over data loss.

Good work Gavin.
To remove the GOMC image host without warning is a lousy trick, completely lacking nobility in character or quality or purpose, in fact something cowardly and ignoble in attitude. Despicable even! Well thats what Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. would have said

I've been in contact with Hans, who is the only person who can get the Grumpies up and running again. Sadly, his health is very poor, and the forum isn't part of his "must do" list at the moment MODERATOR EDIT: This and several of the posts that follow have been moved from the thread " The things I find in mixed lots at auction." In that thread, feebletodix made the following comment:

This is a good place to post this, in light of the mention of the Grumpies. Ron Collumbine (GOMC1) gave me this, knowing that the KGV stamps were up my alley. A parcel from Gold Coast to the UK containing "three leather hand bags manufactured by natives of Gold Coast". The reverse

This translated as 'Bag policy for cash operation/transaction', I have a feeling that may not be quite correct. Could a Spanish speaker please correct me. Gavin, I am sorry for the loss of your "Grumpies" forum. I didn't know it at all, but you have my sympathies. I know how I felt when TSF went down. Anyway, I am not much of a Spanish speaker, but "bolsa" also translates to "stock market" in addition to "bag". Perhaps that puts you more in line with the right meaning in this case.

The parcel travelled via Switzerland, but I have never got around to investigating the applicable route in 1937. There's a transit label from Porrentruy, and an unidentified label from Solothurn. These two places are just 65km apart. The cream coloured label says "customs treatment at the border" in the three languages of Switzerland. The stamps are a little worse for wear Opened out, the parcel is almost a metre square, impossible to display, and tucked away (sadly). It was a superb gift from a fantastic human being

Start a 'Grumpies' thread here for all those who are not happy or annoyed at something. Or for those who are missing the 'Grumpy Old Men's Club' !! It's not a bad alternative is it ? We can all post an item or two connected to the group to get the feel of the place. How about it ? Londonbus1....Yay from me

One of the best things about this site is that there aren't any whiners or downers.

I'm with zipper -- there are forums where whining and hurtful commentary directed toward others are commonplace. We've tried very hard to keep The Stamp Forum an inviting place where members of all types and levels of expertise are treated with courtesy and respect.

Ahh, I think a samll miss-understanding theGOMC tolerated opinions but also provided a place where steam could be vented on non-stamp matters. Having ranted about previous tenants back there, (yes I am a domestic ba***rd landlord), I am about to do more to my flat and I really want to say a few words about the state of the domestic property renovation industry.

I'm ready to join, not sure of how grumpy one has to be, but if I am away from stamps for too long, there's definitely some grumpiness emanating from me!!!! --Jim

It is definately contagious, outbreaks are brought on other peoples bad driving, other old people being old and of course the youff of today. Minor flare-ups can be brought on by weak tea made by sixteen year olds who cannot leave it brew long enough, dog mess on the pavement (sidewalk), politicians, fake tans and of course the wife's choice of shell suit with gold jewelry.

It's delicate though. All that has to happen is for him to contact the provider, reassign Admin rights to someone else and, bingo, the GOMC resurrection!

Considering that he knew I would take it on and keep it going, he chose to shut it down without warning anyone. There were other moderators whom he could have handed control to but did not. Surely if it was down to his ill health he would have handed the control to a moderator.
This suggests he wanted to kill it and cause problems in doing so. Why, is in his head and he has chosen not to publicly share his motives.

He didn't shut it down, the hosting expired and the hosting company couldn't contact him as he was in hospital. He anticipates a poor outcome healthwise.

I did look into that and found a different expiry date in the hosting registry, hence my irritation. The hosting company were deliberately unhelpfull.
I have always hoped he would recover, but I have a feeling with the loss of Ron, Tony and Lawrence, he is feeling he is without his friends support. Lawrence was going to look after him until the MND hit hard and too fast. Being too far away to do more than offer a few words sucks.
