Am considering getting the Scott catalogs online version. Does anyone use them, or have you tried them?

I would see if a sample is somehow available. I tried another publisher's full series for a 1 year membership ($100) and found it slow to access, no search feature and poor zoom quality. Essentially the pages were just low quality images not pdfs Downloads of pages and printing was very limited and with poor resulting quality. Depending on the EPub software they used, the quality may be reasonable or disappointing and there might be an issue with browser compatibility. I would also be concerned as to how long the service will be active. The Scott prices online for the full catalogs vs the book price do not seem like such a good deal other than maybe for specific country issues.

zipper, I don't have any experience with them so I made a quick visit to the Scott Online Catalogue Bookstore. The cost per volume of the online catalogs are $23 less than the Amos Advantage member price ($75 vs. $100). If they are searchable then that provides an advantage over the paper version; however, thay are not available to you offline. I also noted that the 2016 online versions are no longer available so I'm wondering how long you may be able to access them. You can buy the 2018 Norway pages for $3 so that provides you a relatively inexpensive opportunity to give it a try. I may do that myself, just so I know what is being offered.

I got the one for Germany. I thought it was kind of clumsy - it's really just a slow e-reader. I had to zoom in and out often to go back and forth between navigating and actually reading. It was literally just catalog page images strung together. No search capability that I saw. The advantage was that the issues and values were more current than the catalogs I have and you only buy the nation you want, but it just wasn't what I expected or wanted.

I appreciate feedback since I was also interested. from what I saw the Scott online version was not that much cheaper than the printed version. With a printed version, you got yo use if forever but suspect the online version has limits. I ended up purchasing the worldiwde edition of Stamp Manage ( www.libertystreet.com/) instead. It has all Scott countries but completeness varies. For example, early British Commonwealth is in the database and manay images but for some countries like Singapore there is missing data for some later issues. There is an image for many but the quality various. From what I see, EzStamp is more complete for their listing but you pay a lot more.

I also tried Stamp Manage, but I'm having a lot of trouble keeping the prices I put in from reverting to nonsense values. As far as the images and updates, it looks to me like that's largely user-supplied and then globalized.
Personally, I'd like it more if it had better ways to add stamp varieties that aren't listed by Scott. I mean, sometimes I think the only reason I use Scott at all is because everyone else seems to!

Bought the $3 Norway catalog as a test. I think it's okay, just takes getting used to it. For instance, the navigation problem is solved for the most part by using bookmarks and the search feature.
Click on the bookmark feature, and everything you bookmarked, such as watermarks, is listed for you.
In the search feature, you can search however you want.
If you're interested in 2018 catalogs, try the $3 Norway and play with all the features to make an informed decision.

It does not look like you can print anything out. You're right, it prints only the top 1/4 of the page. However, I got around this by taking a screen shot and printing that.

I would rather buy an older issue that I can keep for the money they want for a limited subscription and I like info online. EzStamp's program appears to have more details than StampManage (more a community effort).

Thanks, Steve. I really don't like using the physical catalogs; they're clumsy and I need a magnifying glass. Having the images and text blown up to readable size and not struggling with the weight of the catalog is what appeals to me.
I don't think they can revoke online issues that one has paid for. They just stop issuing them to newcomers.

A few years ago, Amos came out with an iPad version of their catalogs. Half (only half?) the price and great convenience. BUT, it was complete crap. I bought the Canadian catalog (or at least the catalog that included Canada, can't remember now) and started at it right away.
- The pictures were small, but zoom in, and what do you get? A pixellated mess.
- Going through the pages, I end up putting it away. Open it up again, to Page 1. You have to laboriously page through to where you 'think' you left off.
- No checkboxes or annotations possible. It was just page after page of small type & pictures.
I complained to Apple right away & had my money returned to me. I sent an e-mail to Amos with all my complaints. After a month or so, they finally replied stating that they would look into the complaints & issue a new version. That never did happen, and as of today, it is still available as v1.0. No-one like it either. Such a shame, as I would have bought more from them in this format. As it is, I borrow older issues from the library and leave those to that. They are a good catalog, but far too basic for me.

Like books I prefer to hold it in my hand. I can hold my Kobo & Apple Books in my hand too! But it is nice to have one in hand. And I keep buying all kinds. At least I don't have as many books as I do stamps!

I see offers on E-Bay for Scott catalogs for PDF (downloadable) 2017 worthwhile or a waste of time?
I like the idea of something that is stored on my computer, rather than a tome for the shelves, and it seems it might be quickly searchable
and whether printed or digital- I do not have much of any recent issues, so would an older catalog be just as useful?

The original 2009 from Scotts has been circulating pirate sites for years
The 2017 first appeared on Russian pirate sites and people who have downloaded it are now reselling it. The "Bonus" additions are also pirated from the same Russian sites
The same sites also offer the US specialized 2014, SG 2014, Commonwealth 2014, all the Michel catalogs from 2009 to 2014, the Yvert 2012 and many others. I know of one particular Russian site that has some 500+ catalogs.
I don't believe it falls in the realm of "collusion" but you are paying someone for an item that is free on these pirate sites and of course against copyright laws that no one will or can enforce. NO, no one from Amos or any other publisher has given them permission, $75-$500 sets DON'T sell for $15-$30 from the publisher.
The real danger is since the downloads originate from Latvia, Croatia, Russia, they may contain an extra hidden package you weren't counting on (virus checkers may not catch it). Don't be fooled, it is simple to fake a US origin on eBay

I think it would be good case of buyer beware. I looked at most of them and seem to be scanned versions. Most are from Russian Federation. I do questention if the seller has permission of the copyright holder, AMOS Publishing to sell these copies. Personally iwould never purchase as I believe in copyrighted material should be protected. Even though the cost to buy these catalogues is prohibitively expensive. David

I figured if they are for sale on eBay, they'd be OK. eBay is American & subject to its laws, are they not?
I tried to stop it just now but can't.
I'll have to wait and see what happens...
eBay won't cancel the order. What are the odds of the order being cancelled? I sent a message asking for it to be cancelled. They are still sleeping in Europe, so I'll be sleeping when the probably respond.

Oh well...
He replied, "You already paid, so it's my duty to send you download links."
and now I have the links.
I wonder if I should just ignore and eat the stupid eBay cost.

Well, after futzing around with the link, I managed to start the download of one Stanley Gibbons file. At 500 mb's, with no apparent end in sight, I cancelled the download.
Maybe I can get VISA to stop payment.
