I had never heard of this entity . Collecting does show the expansiveness of the British over the years while the Americans practiced isolationism (not saying either is right or wrong).

There's an India Bahawalpur and there's a Pakistan Bahawalpur... well basically Bahawalpur before 1947 and after 1947 :-) Had come across this fascinating site on Dead Country Stamps, i.e. of countries that no longer exist. Check it out www.dcstamps.com/. It's got some great album pages too for you to download.

Commemorating the bi-centenary of the ruling Abbasi-Dynasty,issued Dec.1st,1947 This is the first stamp of Bahawalpur. A prior series of overprinted stamps of Brit.India, listed by Stanley Gibbons, was withdrawn and is not known used regularly.Scott and Michel do not list these overprints,as their status is disputed.

Nice looking stamps. I found the Bahawalpur 1949 UPU issues as part of the British Omnibus issue. Used is quite difficult as most people in area were illiterate at the time. I did manage to find some CTOs to complete my used set. Genuine postally used are quite rare I have found.

That genuinely used stamps are very rare,is due to the fact, that they were invented only to be sold to collectors. They were valid for postage within the state only.Mail to Pakistan and worldwide had to be franked withPakistan stamps, what were on sale on all post offices.Stamps of Bahawalpur could be used till 1953. The last postage-stamp issue:
Issued Oct.10th,1949 in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the U.P.U. The set exists perforated 13 (upper line) (cheapest),perf. 17.5 x 17 (middle line) (about ten times more expensive) and imperforated (about 100 times the price of perf.13). I cannot recall any other stamps perforated narrow as 17.5 x 17.But maybe there are others.

Till 1945 official mail was handled free of charge. From March 1945 till 1950 service stamps were used. Unlike the postage stamps, most service stamps issued 1945/46 were used frequently and are not or not much dearer than mint ones.
Issued March 1st,1945. (part I of 2)
Overprinted revenues with sarkari (in Urdu) = service.

On March 10th,1945 a 1 Anna service stamp (O10) was issued. It shows two camels (other design than the earliar one). The frame is brown, the picture is black. Unfortunately I do not own that stamp. Scott states that two types of gum exist on O1-O10.I always thought mine were just tropic, but they seem to be of the first print with a brownish streaky gum.Looking at the back-side,there is most easy to spot watermark. I have ever seen on stamps:

issued 1948 (part I of 2) This and the last set of service stamps appear hardly ever to be used.So catalogue prices for used stamps are about 30 times of that for mint ones.

Issued Oct.10th,1949 The overprinted stamps of the commemorative issue from the same day are the last stamps of Bahawalpur. They exist perf.13,imperforated (shown) and perf.17,what I do not own.

Regarding narrow perfs, Singapore's first issue has a number of perf 18 examples. I have seen a perf 20, but can't recall where. Don't breathe on sheets or blocks, they will fly apart.
