Beryllium Guy Thanks for fixing that scan for me! I don't know why I couldn't crop it. I just scanned two different stamps and was able to crop them, so it isn't my software or computer causing the problem. Love you, Zipper.

Thanks to zipper for posting the French postmarks catalogue info and to Xavier ( hrdoktorx) first for the translation and then for the explanation. Although I can read French, I was really struggling to get the real meaning, and even after seeing the translation into my native English, I still wasn't really sure what the point was. Sometimes, understanding comes not just from the content but from the context, too. Many thanks, Xavier, for answering the call in this case. For me, your explanation is even better than the translation!

Lots of great info and links in this thread - wish I'd found it 2 months ago when I had a group of early French to go through! But now I'm ready for the next batch...

I wish I could post the entire catalog for you guys, but I suspect we'd get in trouble.

Recently acquired these three, GB stamps with French numeral postmarks. The first QV 1d star with numeral 3176, which according to the previous owner is Leharve. Looking at the links from earlier posts and referring to the lists there 3176 (small numeral) is St Malo. Which one is it and any help on the other two appreciated. Regards Graham

The first stamp is petits chiffre s Saint-Malo the center one I cannot tell what the number is, but looks to be gros chiffres Bottom stamp looks more like 519, also gros chiffres which would be Boilène if it is 529 then it would be Bons-en-Chablais here are links to tables petits chifres
and her for gros chifres

could be a "4", but I do not see a trace of the 'nub" of the crossbar to the right of the main. although there is the break in the upright (which could be poor inking) below are some quickly grabbed examples
