The Federated Malay States were formed in July 1896. The States of Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Pahang and Perak joined the Federation. The first stamps were issued in 1900. All stamps of the Federated Malay States were printed by De La Rue except the Postage Dues which were supplied by Waterlow & Sons. Below are a few examples from the first issue all overprinted 'Federated Malay States'. The 1c, 2c, 3c, 10c & 50c are overprinted on stamps of Negri Sembilan while the 5c is from Perak.

Nice Elephant Topicals or your Country collection ? Difficult choice. The bottom one has seen too much sunlight I believe. All by De La Rue. EDIT: Cancel that sunlight bit.

This has been one of my focus areas. A great focus !! Very nice stamps and I am tempted by the ones I have here to add to them as opposed to selling them !! I'll scan the rest and put them up tomorrow. Not quite complete yet.

I'm on the edge to set up an collection from Malaysia or Malaysian states. I have seen in my stockbooks that has come to me in several different auction lots that there where several stamps from that area. I also have a box witch I'm about to explore now that are filled up with old envelopes with stamps. So much for my concentration on old Europa. Let's see what I have and then decide what to do with it.
And some stamps to start with

The bottom one has seen too much sunlight I believe. EDIT: Cancel that sunlight bit. I realize that I am extremely late to comment on this, but the higher denomination stamps from this set are known to have been printed with fugitive inks, so if any of these appear lighter in color than their counterparts, it could be due to soaking. Alex ( vikingeck), the bi-colored lower denominations from this set may also be printed with fugitive inks, as I have examples in my accumulation that seem to show blurring of the ink in some cases, especially the ones with red frames. That is purely from my recollection. I will try to check my holdings again and comment further, if warranted.

Just had a lot of fun sorting a large lot of Malaya...different states, BMA overprints, Federated Malay States etc. All used and lots of duplication. I know they do not have much value but I am amazed that there were so many different...I know this is just a small percentage of the issues. Put them on three stocksheets for the time being, as shown in this picture. southafrica1

I have a bunch of Malay states as bundleware from the period around Merdaka , just before and 1st independence. Not my own , so selling on eBay for a friend. I reckon the postage may be more than the value of the stamps. P

Giving this thread a bump after combining the recent new thread by southafrica1 into this existing one. If the thread name needs further revision to cover the right material, any member with an opinion on that should feel free to let me know. Thanks!
