philbeaux I was looking at my WW inventory (on computer) and I only have 2 Chile stamps in it - but I do know that I have books and albums with Chile stuff and your post kind of stimulated me (mentally, not physically !!! ) to do the Chile inventory and maybe share knowledge with you, afterwards. I am lucky in the sense that most of my stamps come from my father's multiple buys in the 60s and 70s. He is now departed and I have work doing inventory for many years ahead and I started stamping at age 12 but it was an on and off thing for many years so this explains I rarely buy stamps as I have plenty that have not been identified. Thanks again for your thread !! I have a feeling (with your name) that your family were Cajuns, deported to the States in 1775. I am proud to be Canadian-French ....or French-Canadian René CANADA

I am proud to be Canadian-French ....or French-Canadian René CANADA I am in Louisiana and actually my heritage is more Creole than Cajun. I started using Philbeaux more because "Phil" is usually already taken as a username in most forums. I got back into collecting about 5 years ago. I already had a considerable amount of stamps but really no albums. I was amazed at the relatively expensive cost of buying stamps on Ebay and found myself doing more hoarding than collecting. So about 2 years ago I decided I would not purchase any more stamps until I sorted out the many, many thousands I already had. So, other than the occasional purchase at a stamp show or special situation I've pretty much just been going through the stacks of envelopes and albums pages I already have. A large part of what I had was various South American countries. I honestly never gave much thought to South America but as I started going through them and putting them in albums I really found myself having a good time and thoroughly enjoying it. I hope to post most pictures but I'd like to have the pages a little more complete. There's just something about completely filling up a page!

Hi René Off topic but pertinent to your statement. I come from Maine and am familiar with Quebec. Your statement above depends on one's origin, English or French, as to which it is Since you use an accent on your name, I assume French origin and therefore French-Canadian. Jerry B

Hi philbeaux
Come join the few Latin America collectors. South America can be easy to collect or complicated. In either case it is an interesting area.
Nice start for a Chile collection!

I agree with Jerry B a good start to Chile. I started Bolivia last spring by buying a couple old album page lots and when I finally got around to mounting them I had a fairly complete to 1950ish collection.I started Liberia the same way but that country's early issues don't come as cheap.I hope you pursue the missing ones and fill those holes.

Jerry B You are right, Jerry Jerry B and "Maine is Beautiful" and I am also a neighbor from New Brunswick and live on the border (Madawaska, Maine/Edmundston, N.B.).....I consider Maine people as brothers and sisters. Jerry B It's actually not a start. I have lots already mounted but, I'd rather share scans of more complete pages. Right now I'm still interested in almost anything worldwide. I'm mounting whatever I pull out the big box really! But I'm more than happy to share pages as I fill them up. I actually have several Colombian a done. I also noticed quite a bit of Paraguay I still need to sort.

philbeauxI do not do pages anymore as I do not scan that well but am eager to see your pages of SA. BTW I have some "dups" of Chile, put aside for you, in case they can fill holes but it is just a start Sc # 25,26,28,29 (for now as I have just started inventory) Let me know - I do not sell and rarely trade. I just mail them to friends.René

Nothing terribly valuable I'm afraid though. I'll try to get a list together in the future. I actually work in South America ... Guyana. I work a 28&28 schedule and as luck would have it I'm flying out Christmas day. I'll be back in the States the last week of January.

philbeauxGood to know - you must have heat (nice weather) while we freeze here.....though it was raining today and tomorrow !!! Weird Before we start to expand on dups etc. I would prefer to give you some "slack" (time) to inventory your South America collections and in particular, Chile and let me know the Scott #s missing (already gave you a preview). As I told you before, I only started Chile so we will see. Merry X-Mas !! René

Though right now, in the evenings it's really quite pleasant. Our apartments are just a couple miles from the Atlantic ocean and when there's a breeze coming off the water it's very nice to be outside. Yes with me trying to wrap as much of the holidays up with the kids and grandchildren I won't have much time for stamping until I come back. And a very Merry Christmas to you as well!

This is the end (for now) of my Chile inventory. 258 stamps, some I have posted in this thread. I am stuck with 1 stamp I cannot identify using Scott 2013. I feel it is a "revenue stamp" but would appreciate your help in identifying it, so here goes...... René

"Impuesto" = "Tax". This is a revenue stamp issued 1880-1901. It does have a postal cancellation though, such use being authorised if postage stamps ran out. It's very common

I read somewhere that it is "Morley #3", but I don't hold revenue catalogues of any kind
