Celle, Hannover 1860sThis is an admittedly common stamp/cover but also an economic way to fill this hole in my collection of covers from around the world.

in the latest acquisition- Labeled Hanover #2 I cannot make out the cancellation aside from the 21 over 11 (November 21?) From what I have found in a quick search early 1850s?

Hi, Stan ( stainlessb).... nice stamp! For what it's worth, I think you have the date correct, 21st November. I also have some other old postmarks from 1850s-1860s that do not show the year.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Still working my way through the large bin of stamps for a friend and this evening I started going through several hundred Germany and states. It is dominated by common stuff but out jumped this nice little Hannover used stamp. The cancel is light. The grill work is orange and goes to the margins so I am guessing it would be Scott 14 issued in 1857. I do not have others to compare with but maybe a member could confirm this for me.

Hello hdm1950, I would agree that it's Scott #14 (Michel #12). The orange network nails it. Lovely stamp. Think of what it would be worth if it hadn't been licked... Rob

I have no idea how the AFA-cat. corresponds to the Michel-listing.
To me the Michel (Spezial 2005) colour-listing of this stamp looks very much like a nightmare !

The AFA catalog lists four color shades (in Danish):
15 - rosa ( pink ) 15a - karmin ( carmine red ) 15b - lilarod ( reddish purple ) 15c - vinrod ( "lie-de-vin" in French, wine red )
So it actually matches pretty well the Michel listings, just with a one letter shift: 15 -> 14a, 15a -> 14b, 15b -> 14c, and 15c -> 14d.

What I meant with "nightmare" was the first line (14a). It reads translated: "bright-reddish-carmine to lively-red-carmine (many shades) [rose]" To me this includes 14b and 14c as well. Looking at your stamp,it shows some prominent scares on the kingĀ“s cheek. However there is a footnote in Michel regarding to the 1 Gr. stamp:
"Of no.14 lots of damages of the hatchings as well as mutilations of the lettering do exist."
So obviously not that extraordinary,as at first it seemed to me.

A belated answer to question of hdm1950:
Left stamp: Michel no.7 (Sc.8),narrow meshes Right stamp: Michel no.12 (Sc.14),wide meshes
Yours shows wide meshes.
