These days many countries have issued stamps depicting prepared foods typical of their culture. I started a topical album of these stamps on my FB page but I thought it would be neat to start a topical thread here. The idea is to only post stamps that show prepared dishes or foods. Let me start this off with these three stamps from my day's worth of work on New Zealand.
1994, Sc. 1210 Pavlova Dessert 1994 Sc. 1211 Hokey Pokey Ice Cream
1994 Sc. 1212 Fish and Chips

Nice theme and stamps darkormex . I thought Pavlova was a Polish or Russian cake, so I had to look it up. And indeed it was created in New Zealand! Wikipedia
Every day I learn something new here at TSF And as a sidetrac to that, Cuba issued in 2015 a stamp with the dancer Anna Pavlova witch the cake is named after!

From 2001 to 2005, South Korea issued a series of stamps depicting culturally significant and traditional foods called the Korean Food Series in the KPC Catalog. The first is below, issued in 2001 and shows various kimchees. Scott no. 2056a-d The stamp on the bottom right, above, shows a radish kimchi called Kkaktugi...here is my wife's version that she made last week.

The closest I can come to describing these are Korean traditional pastries. Most of the time these are rice based (similar to the rice cakes above) and contain sweet bean paste. I have eaten more than I will ever admit to. Scott no. 2126a-d issued in 2003.

Many of these dishes are prepared on special occasions like birthdays, 100 days celebrations for newborns, Lunar New Year etc...there are also a number of foods that were only prepared for royalty back in the day...these are some of those. These show various vegetable and egg preparations, some on skewers and some presented on platters and others in a cooking pot similar to Japanese shabu shabu. Scott no. 2149a-d issued in 2004

From the Traditional Desserts of Portugal series issued May 31, 2017. I do not have a Scott Cat no. but they are Portugal no. 4270 on Stampworld.com. These were on a letter that came from Vince ( stanley64 ) and are part of a set of 6 stamps. In Portuguese these are known as tigeladas de Abrantes or Abrantes Bowls. Here is a recipe in case you are interested in making what looks like a delicious dessert. Abrantes Bowls Recipe

What a great thread and who knew that philately could help work up an appetite ;-) Thanks for sharing the ' Tigeladas de Abrantes' postage stamps Darrin ( darkormex) and bon appetite for those that try the recipe provided.
For anyone in the area, a 'Tigeladas de Abrantes' or similar doce, along with a glass of port, awaits...
Happy collecting! P.S. I was not aware of the 'BimbyWorld' website, subsequently bookmarked it, and have put Canelones com Vegetais e Mascarpone on this week's menu.

Another stamp from Portugal depicting prepared foods came in one of the recent batches of kiloware I purchased. This is Sc. no. 2129 and depicts Truta a moda de Boticas or Trout in the Boticas style of preparation. This is from a 6 stamp set issued in 1996 depicting traditional foods. Below is the recipe in case you are interested. Use a browser-native translator to translate to the language of your choice from Portuguese. Truta a moda de Boticas

A sheetlet issued by Libya for the Tripoli International Fair in 2014, and featuring traditional dishes: Personally, I'm no fan of the fish couscous, bottom right, though, to be fair, the one I had was in a Tunisian restaurant, so maybe the Libyans do it better! Couscous and Tajines (French spelling of what the stamps write as Bazin, the two on the left) are very popular in France. It's food that is easy to make in large quantities, hence often found at worksite and school cafeterias, including mine.

Personally, I'm no fan of the fish couscous, bottom right, though, to be fair, the one I had was in a Tunisian restaurant, so maybe the Libyans do it better! The Libyans would add a LOT of onion, I bet. In the "completely unimportant but nonetheless never to be forgotten trivia" section of my brain, I can remember that Libyans eat more onions per capita than any other country on the planet. No good for me, I don't like onion - unless they cook them down to a paste and smother them with spices, hooray for Indian food!! Ryan

Don't tell any of my stamp collecting friends that I got a recent souvenir sheet from Bhutan. It might even have been printed by one of those dreaded agencies.
My excuse? It shows one of my favorite dishes, ema datsi. I prepared for my trip to Bhutan by working on my tolerance for hot peppers, and by the time I left, I was chomping on habaneros. Unfortunately, the Bhutanese tourist industry was under the impression that foreigners hate their cuisine, so served us watered down Indian fare. I did not want to waste the pain of all those habaneros, so asked for the food that was served to the guides and the drivers. That is when I discovered ema datsi.
Ema datsi looks like string beans in a cheese sauce, but is actually strips of long hot peppers soaked in yak cheese. I actually liked it, which delighted and surprised the Bhutanese hosts, but that only led to an awkward moment when they tried to set me up with a Bhutanese wife.
When I came home, I tried to replicate the recipe. Any long hot pepper, even a jalapeno, will do. The problem was finding cheeses that had the same melting behavior as Himalayan homemade yak cheese. Philly has some very well-stocked cheese shop, and their clerks looked baffled when I asked, and they tried to sell me all sorts of obscure and expensive cheeses that were clearly not appropriate. After some experimentation, I have settled on a mix of farmers cheese and Mt Vikos sheep feta.
The picture does not do the dish justice, but once I learned there was a stamp showing it, I had to have it.

One small design error is that rice grown in Bhutan is red, not white, although white rice is very available. The rice growing area was diminished thanks to stamps.A huge chunk of its main rice-growing valley, the Paro, was turned over to an airport initially financed by those early gimmick stamps.

greaden, nice addition to this thread. My wife and I met in Korea and that is where I developed a fondness for spicy foods and, especially, various hot peppers. I also have developed a good tolerance for even the hottest.

From a series of "Spain in 19 dishes", the issue from Extremadura showing a very appetizing lamb preparation. The stamp is meant to smell like the meat though I found the smell rather faint. Plus the chef featured is named Javier, what's not to like?
