This thread needs a boost - hold on space cadets I'll see what I can find that might add some interest.

Belgium: First Man on the Moon souvenir sheet. This s/s is significant to me as it awakened me to the reality of my emersion in the "I am the center of the universe" thinking. Because I so vividly remember watching the live television broadcast of Neil Armstrong's first step upon the Moon at 9:56pm CDT(USA) 07/20/1969, it was imprinted in my brain that the First Man on the Moon had journeyed there on July 20, 1969 (my mother's birthday - significant to me). However. when I first saw this S/S (many years later), I was positive there was an error inscribed thereon as the date shown was July 21, 1969. Of course, the truth shortly conquered my ego centralist thinking and showed me the error was mine. Indeed, the moon landing itself did occur on July 20, 1969 at 8:18pm UTC (3:56pm CDT (USA), but the actual "moon walk" (nothing to do with Michael Jackson) didn't happen until 6 hours later, still July 20 by Texas reckoning, but July 21 by universal coordinated time (i.e., "rest of the world") reckoning.

Space card with stamp - not an official maxicard. c 1980's Nasa Postcard 173042. Smith Card Co There is no title given on the rear of this card which leads me to believe the photo is of the ill fated Space Shuttle Challenger. Disaster struck on January 28, 1986 leading to the deaths of its seven crew members. Magyar Posta Stamp is titled Columbia .

US Sc# C76 C76 tied to a Fleetwood cachet postmarked July 20, 1969 (the day Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon) and September 9, 1969 - the first day of issue for the C76 If you collect US covers there's a pretty good chance you have one that's almost identical to this cover. The Apollo 11 FDC was the most popular ever issued with a record 8,743,070 postmarked at Washington, D.C., the official city of release.

1974. This cover celebrates Soyuz 14 docking with Salyut 3. On 4 July Soyuz 14 docked with the Salyut 3 space station after 15 revolutions of the earth. The planned experimental program included manned military reconnaissance of the earth's surface, assessing the fundamental value of such observations, and some supplemental medico-biological research. All objectives were successfully completed and the spacecraft was recovered on July 19, 1974 at 12:21 GMT, landing within 2 km of the aim point 140 km SE Dzhezkazgan. I'm not sure if Doc Nichol produced the rubber stamped cachet (Doc's Local Post Label also on cover).

My newest endeavour into the hobby. topical Space Collecting and I wanted to share the fun with you After many years of resisting I finally broke down and decided to take the plunge into topical collecting. At one time I started buying some aircraft stamps but did not stick with it long. Lately I've been really wanting to acquire some of the older space issues that I remember as a kid being facinated with. Growing up watching the space race as a kid was so exciting and it thrills me that I can now afford to purchase these MNH sets that are affordable and great stamps. I'll post more pages as I complete them First up, Paraguay, Scott #978 -985 with info defining each mission. I realize that some improvements need to be made to the page like the last paragraph moved up and a proper caption added to replace it. But I'll do that at a later date when I resupply on mounts! At a later date, I'll also complete this set with another page of the imperf version of the set and additional information about each stamp. Enjoy, I hope you like them Mike

In 1961 Russia began issuing small sheets some of which are in high demand and valuable. The first one catalogs at 1,000,000 rubles = $16,000
1984, 15 K. Y. Gagarin
"When they saw me in my space suit and the parachute dragging alongside as I walked, they started to back away in fear. I told them, don't be afraid, I am a Soviet like you, who has descended from space and I must find a telephone to call Moscow!"

First French Satellite - New Caledonia Engraved Pair; View of Launch and Satellite in Orbit. Pair is from the top of an imperforated sheet of 8 stamps.
From Wikepedia "Astérix, the first French satellite, was launched on November 26, 1965 by a Diamant A rocket from Hammaguir, Algeria. With Astérix, France became the sixth country to have an artificial satellite in orbit after: USSR (Sputnik 1, 1957), the United States (Explorer 1, 1958), the United Kingdom (Ariel 1, 1962), Canada (Alouette 1, 1962) and Italy (San Marco 1, 1964), and the third to launch a satellite on its own (the UK, Canada and Italy's satellites were launched on American rockets). The satellite was originally designated A-1, as the French Army's first satellite, but later renamed after the popular French comics character Astérix. Due to the relatively high altitude of its orbit, it is not expected to re-enter Earth's atmosphere for several centuries"

Space Shuttle Discovery Mission STS-63STS-63 was the first mission of the US/Russian Shuttle-Mir Program, which carried out the first rendezvous of the American Space Shuttle with Russia's space station Mir. Known as the 'Near-Mir' mission, the flight used Space Shuttle Discovery, which lifted off from launch pad 39B on 3 February 1995 from Kennedy Space Center, Florida. It was a night launch and the 20th mission for Discovery. I got this cover for many reasons. One was the beginning of US/Russia cooperation in space. The cachet is really well done. Also the stamp is a plate number singe.

Time for another post of one of my space album pages. This one is from Paraguay 1964 and shows Gemini missions, the Telstar Satellite and "Future" Apollo and Lunar Modules. It also includes a souvenir sheet of the Tokyo XVII Olympics of 1964 with Telstar used to telecast the games.
