From another thread on first flight FDCs by Stevew

I had forgot about that part of your post. Yes, FDCs were often purchased from the postal service stamped and cancelled but unnaddressed (in bulkas well). I have some of those too, even sheetlets of postal buddy cards with 4 FDC cancelled cards. As to value, I don't know which have more value, addressed or unaddressed. I had the idea in my mind that unaddressed were less valuable since they're a bit like CTOs, i.e. cancelled but not genuine postal use. I certainly could be wrong, as I haven't looked up values. I guess since an unaddressed envelope can easily be turned into an addressed envelope, it's a weak distinction.

For me, and Unitrade Canada Specialized, a FDC's price:
Price represents a single stamp , on cover, cancelled by the Post Office - on the 1st day of issue
1927-1931 FDC prices for addressed covers. Cacheted covers will command a premium
1932-1948 FDC prices are for addressed cachet covers
1949-1971 FDC prices are for the most common unaddressed cachet covers
Canada Post began issuing Official FDCs in April 1971 (Ref: page 16 2019 Cat for more....)

I wish Canada Post would have a program like in the USA where one can send covers to an issuing post office to get a FDC, sent through the mail. And the issuing post office would be relevant to the stamps being issued.
I detest the unaddressed FDC's they sell.

Pete, all FDCs (Canada) my late dad bought were addressed to him with the Official stamp from Canada Post and at times he even had his business logo on envelope This one is a 41 year old FDC and is stamped bilingual and he chose blocks often because he liked "blocks", not for the value...... And I do not know how he did it !! I do not buy FDC of the last 25 years or so at the P.O. unless very Special cover and occasion
Do not mind leaving address on the Covers as 1) Jean-Louis died in 1999 (my dad) 2) His Company was sold to the Irving group by JP my brother and address has no more significance in 2019 so please do not send anything.....it will be returned to sender !!

Thanks Philatarium and Stan stainlessb !! Canada FDC info as appears on post #1 is probably too specialized for the majority of our members (a good % sleeping at this hour)........but it does reflect the facts in response to Pete's (a Canadian) inquiry and my late dad knew how to make it worthwhile and I believe he was connected to Canada Post René btw young Nikhil from India read the 1st post - Thanks Nik nikhil

I started buying FDC from Canada Post in the early 80’s and they were unaddressed. I recall my brother getting FDC mailed to him when I was much younger. Not sure if from Canada. I was able to sell most of my FDC for about what I paid for them. Only have a few special one these days. I did get a nice lot of US FDC in the April Mystery box. Some addressed and others not.
